SPEAKING MY TRUTH

Here's the thing... I haven't been at all true to myself and what I really want out of my career. Ironically, I've been a career coach and mentor to over 80 private clients in my side hustle and this is the exact thing I message about day in day out. Find passion and purpose. I've run workshops, facilitated group sessions, run affiliate marketing campaigns, created resumes and Linkedin profiles, sold online courses, coached individuals to find confidence, helped define and launch personal brands, accepted paid gigs for keynote speaking, accepted paid sponsorships to exclusively run social media takeovers, paid to blog... the list goes on.

I've somehow managed to do all of this, kick goals in my full-time job and also build a humble but impressive six-figure side hustle, The Careers Emporium. Full on much? Well, the actual truth hasn't ever really been said in full. I've never thought my story was fascinating until I started to build a loyal tribe who continue to work with me, buy from me and trust me. I never thought my hustle was anything special until I started to get interviewed on podcasts with a reach of tens of thousands. I never really thought I had much of a message to share until I found myself on a stage with thousands in the crowd.

It's actually in these moments where I've never really been able to speak my truth. I felt something holding me back and yet nothing held me back at the same time. I felt comfortable being employed and it has been my safety net, my home, my hidey hole. I will miss that feeling of 'coming home to Cogent.'

So here it is...my truth:

I'm a side hustler

I have been working at Cogent as Head of Recruitment for the last 18 months 

I LOVE it - the best job I've ever had

I LOVE my side hustle even more

I work hard

I am energised by my side hustle every. single. day

And I am proud of it and what I have created

I don't watch any TV ... well except GoT and Westworld's :)

I have worked the 7 pm-midnight shift on The Careers Emporium for the better part of 18 months

My husband is my business partner. We rock.

I resigned from my wonderful, secure, full-time job 3 weeks ago

I'm slightly freaking out

I eat chocolate to cope (pana in particular)

I am a Mum of two boys currently 10 & 2

Wife to one

I tried a side hustle when I was at Medibank

It was somewhat of a failed attempt

I got a first and final warning and had to chose

I chose hustle

I learnt a lot about myself and how I would have done it differently, honoured my truth sooner perhaps...

I found Cogent and it was perfect for a time

I have big dreams to continue to create multiple reoccurring income streams 

I want to inspire other side hustlers to do their thing whilst enjoying success in their day jobs

I am passionate about my clients' success

I love my side hustle clients

I want to continue coaching side hustlers

I want to travel the world speaking about this

I will write a book one day to empower side hustlers

I want to work more with side hustlers, especially those who want to maintain their jobs whilst giving their hustles a red-hot crack

SO ... deep breath. There it is.

What does this mean for those of you who don't care too much for a side hustle? Well, I completely get it if my content is no longer for you. But if it in some way inspires you to think of business opportunities, inspire you to take action, go for some creative ventures, start that thing with your bestie, pick up the phone and call your brother to start that restaurant and pursue other income streams then stay right here. I promise you this journey is going to get REALLY good.
