And Speaking of… How To Enjoy The Journey

One of my all-time favorite quotes from Abraham-Hicks is, "You can't have a happy ending to an unhappy journey." This quote hits me deeply every time as it is a solid reminder to enjoy the moment and focus on what is right in front of you.?
It is human nature to think that a future outcome will resolve our happiness in the present moment.
For example, "When I have more money in my bank account, I will feel happy."
Or, "When I lose weight, I will feel good about my body."?
Can you relate?
How often do you stop to smell the proverbial roses in your day-to-day life? Are you constantly waiting for that magic moment to "click in" so you can feel happy? Or are you genuinely always looking for the next moment to fill your significance bucket??
Finding joy and happiness in the here and now is becoming a lost art. We live in such a fast-paced society that we are always on the move, literally and figuratively.
As a working, traveling, busy mom and wife, I must be super intentional to find happiness in my daily tasks. For example, as I wrote this article this past weekend, literal mounds of laundry surrounded me. I spent an excessive amount of time washing clothes, towels, and sheets. While folding is not my favorite task, I used this time to catch up on some podcast episodes, which is not something I often have time for. I found joy in a mundane task because my family gives me my space, and I can catch up on what I want to listen to!?

Another way to find joy in the journey is to practice the art of expressing gratitude whenever and wherever you can. Gratitude truly changes everything, and it is an unbelievably powerful tool to openly and outwardly express your appreciation.
I recently spoke to a colleague who shared that she felt the focus was on what she?wasn't doing, and there was never enough focus on what they were doing?and accomplishing. To change that story and vibe she was swimming in, I suggested that she was not getting the proper recognition because she was not giving the energy she wanted to receive. I suggested that she could shift from what was showing up for her if she herself started giving gratitude and public recognition for others that she genuinely wanted to acknowledge.
There is a caveat to the above, and that is this: Don't give to get.
Give gratitude because giving gratitude feels good, and you want to send good vibes to others. You will achieve great fulfillment by sharing gratitude.
It always amazes me how surprised people get when heartfelt compliments are given. It's like we are starved and have lost our ability to take a moment and give or receive a compliment. Maybe it is just my lens from working on cruise ship and being in hospitality, but taking a moment to acknowledge something positive in someone is so simple, and yet so magical.?
This is how you enjoy the journey. Truly. Give good vibes to spread joy and express your gratitude often and from a heartfelt place. Take a second to feel happy in the moment you are in because that moment is cherished and beautiful.?
I hope my article gave you a much-needed pause to find joy in your journey this week. Consider taking some time this week to think about someone you genuinely feel grateful for and send them an unprompted note to share your gratitude.
Are you up for that challenge? Drop me a note in this thread and share your thoughts on my weekly musings for Life, Leadership, and Love of Travel!?

9 个月We all need this reminder, Vanessa, thank you! I believe that some of us get a wake-up call, for me, it was when I was 42, going through a horrendous divorce, a single mom to 3 young boys, a principal of a middle school and I got kidney cancer. It made me appreciate every moment, even the difficult ones. It is all a part of our journey. As I turn 65 this year and I am now a grandmother, the little moments are even more precious. We never know when our journey will end and it is so important to live each day with gratitude.

9 个月Thank you Vanessa for these thoughts. Such a nicely written reminder to stop and take in the precious moments of our daily lives and cherish the “here and now”. Reminds me of the story of two friends watching a beautiful landscape of lush forests. One of them was able to disconnect from his job and see the beauty in each tree. The other could only see how much wood he could extract. The two friends were lumberjacks!

9 个月Vanessa I found this very rewarding to read. I'm working on this very thing in my life as well. I find giving gratitude for the smallest to the largest happenings and on the slow moving. I give him glory and gratitude everyday. Thank you
