Speaking at Butler University
I am honored to have been invited back to speak and connect with students at Butler University that are taking the Global Women: Rights & Resistance course. The department of Global & Historical Studies houses this course.
Whenever I am invited to speak, especially with students, I insist on sessions being interactive. To be effective in whatever you set out to do, communication is always imperative. To me, communication is a two way street and so together with the students, we turn their classroom into a safe space where dialogue and growth can take place.
In this course, they examine the means by which women around the globe work individually and collectively to gain basic human rights. Issues of culture, religion, tradition, beauty, tourism, health, war, immigration, and the media will be explored as they consider the possibilities for activism and resistance to oppression.
