Speaker line-up for the Climeworks Direct Air Capture Summit is now live
Climeworks
With our Direct Air Capture technology, we remove CO? from the air to fight global warming.
Dear friends of carbon removal,
We are proud to reveal the first line-up of speakers for the Climeworks Direct Air Capture Summit ! Some of the most inspiring and knowledgeable people in the direct air capture (DAC) space, and more broadly in carbon?removal and sustainability, will join us?for a combination of insightful and inspirational keynotes, panels and conversations.
First speaker line-up for the Climeworks Direct Air Capture Summit revealed
You will hear from leading industry experts such as Rich Lesser ( 波士顿谘询公司 ), Howard Herzog ( 美国麻省理工学院 ), Erin Burns ( Carbon180 ), Noah Deich ( U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) ), Nikki Batchelor ( XPRIZE ), Helen Bray ( Puro.earth ), and Giana Amador (Carbon Removal Alliance)?about what it takes to truly scale high-quality carbon removal solutions that are net-negative, additional, verifiable and permanent.?
Our full-day event will put the spotlight on the science and economics of carbon removal solutions like DAC technology, the roles of corporations and governments in the voluntary carbon market, the importance of environmental justice, as well as how to set the highest possible standards for the industry. We will dive into key notions like storage permanence, costs and energy requirements, among many others.
Calling for a clear distinction between emissions reductions and removals
Emissions reductions and removals have different roles to play in the fight against global warming. According to the IPCC , emissions must decrease by at least 90% by 2050 and, additionally, any residual emissions need to be neutralized by carbon removal solutions to enable the world to achieve net zero CO? by 2050.
In line with what climate science states, Climeworks?is calling for a clear and distinct role of emissions reductions and carbon removal – in climate pathways, target setting, industry standards as well as in marketplaces and certificates generated from the two activities. Read the full statement and learn why this distinction can address the much debated problem of moral hazard.
Carbon catch-up with Gold Standard and DNV
In today’s voluntary carbon market, industry-wide standards for the monitoring, reporting and verification (MRV) of carbon removal?are yet to be defined. Why is this important? Because carbon crediting programs like Gold Standard and independent validation and verification bodies like DNV can then ensure the removed tons have met these robust standards.?We're excited to dive into this crucial topic?with Owen Hewlett (Gold Standard), Anirban Chatterjee (DNV) and Friedel Pretorius (Climeworks) in our?next online webinar on May 8!

Expanding our U.S. team
The U.S. has taken a clear leadership position in global action necessary to fight climate change with policies that help advance carbon removal solutions, such as DAC. With over 120,000 hours of real-world experience, Climeworks' DAC technology is deployed in the field, and has started to deliver high-quality, third-party audited carbon removal services to existing customers. We estimate that thousands of direct jobs could emerge by the end of the decade from the projects that Climeworks is involved with in the U.S., which is why we?plan to hire over a hundred employees for our growing team on the ground in the U.S. in the near term. Extending our partnership with Partners Group
We're excited to?announce that Partners Group signed a 13-year carbon removal agreement with us! Our co-CEO and co-founder, Christoph Gebald , says “We are proud to welcome our investor Partners Group as a client and to support their journey toward net zero. High-quality carbon removal must be scaled to gigaton level by 2050, and multi-year agreements like this one are a crucial lever. Partners Group’s commitment to high-quality carbon removals underlines the leading role of the financial services industry in this scale-up. As one of the global leaders in private markets, Partners Group sends a strong signal, which will hopefully inspire more companies to take action on carbon removal.”
We can get to net zero. And beyond.
So long friends, let's do this!
