Speak Your Truth

So, this weekend was supposed to be filled with friends. Birthday lunch celebrations with one, coffee with another and a walk with a third however, on Thursday I got pinged by the Covid app telling me I had to isolate for 5 days.
This was of course disappointing, but it actually gave me time. Which I now know is one of truths. What am I talking about?
The spare time I had meant I could read which I love but have had little time for lately what with work and all the catching up with friends and family now we are allowed to. I have just finished Fearne Cotton’s book Speak your truth. In her book Fearne talks about learning to and the struggle with speaking your truth and being true to yourself.
It made me think about my life, the decisions I have made and the things I say yes to. I am going to talk about my career as this is a professional site but it is just as important to speak your truth in your personal life too.
Some things going on at the moment and being inspired by this book caused me to re-evaluate why I started my own business in the first place. Was I speaking my truth when I was agreeing to pitch for and take on work?
What are my truths?
What are my non negotiables?

What are my values and my passions?
I know that in the past I have supressed these truths in the workplace and it has lead to stress and a feeling of general unhappiness.
When I look back at the workplaces and jobs that I stayed in the longest and enjoyed the most they have not been the easiest, in fact at times they have been extremely challenging but they are the places where I have been able to have an open and honest relationship with my manager where I have been able to be honest and speak my truth.
Now that I am working for myself my main enemy and the thing that stops me living my truth, is fear. I am afraid that I will not get work, worried that I am not good enough but the truth is I am and when I listen to the lies (only coming from myself by the way) I consider and sometimes accept work that does not align with my truth.
If you are unhappy at work take some time to think about your truths. What are your non negotiables? Are you allowing them to be compromised?
If you are, don’t be afraid to speak up or be brave enough to step into the unknown and try something new you might just discover something amazing.

3 年Very well said, Charlotte. Know yourself sounds really easy however it is not and changes with time. It takes courage and it is scary. Hopefully, I will be able to speak up, sooner rather than later. Thank you for your insights (as always)
