Speak Up...

Welcome to the new edition of your short weekly #linkedinnewsletter .

Last week, I encouraged you to "Shut Up " and listen more.

I received some great comments (thank you for sharing because, spoiler alert: by YOU sharing we all gain way more value out of these ideas together).

This week, I am taking an almost opposite approach to, "Shut Up."

Intentionally.

The Problem:?I Do Not Speak Up

This week, imagine you and I are returning from a slow drive to the middle of nowhere.?

Heading back to reality.?

Focused. Ready to get back to the real world.

Real life awaits.

ME: "Hey, how are you?"
YOU: "I am worried about some stuff and am not speaking up about it."

You know.

Something is a bit off.

Maybe it's more than a bit off.

It's toxic.

Or (more likely), somewhere in between...

The Actionable Tip:?Speak Up

This requires courage.

And. I am not recommending you make a CLM (Career Limiting Move).

Unless you can (or maybe the best choice is to walk away and think it through first).

Your Next Step...

Think about the problem I've described and my actionable tip today.

Here is the part where YOU contribute an actionable tip for others who are reading this article....

In the comments below, share?ONE?actionable tip about HOW and WHEN to speak up. And (for bonus points) WHY this is important.

C'mon. Speak up.

Change happens one person at a time.

And the ripples you create can make a real difference.

Thank you.

Sorry - I'm still shutting up! ?? OK back now. For me speaking up depends on context: - If it's a company wide mtg I usually just keep silent and text friends as needed to comment on what's being presented. I might pipe in on chat to support other's comments. - If 1-1 with my boss (and I trust her/him) I'm very open and honest wrt to the issue and it's impact and suggested remedy. Of course I've thought this all through prior! If I really don't have a clue I say so at the beginning as in "I need your help/guidance on..." If the trust is not there - I keep quiet and look for another job, life is too short to work for someone you can't be honest with, IMO. - If it's say a team meeting I'm open and honest cause we need to solve problems/ remove impediments and get a consensus on the best path forward. I seek input from all - going around the room to ensure all have had a chance to chime in. Not sure if that's what you were after... ??
