Spatium: World Premiere at SXSW 2017
In collaboration with director Roland Lane, we are delighted to announce the World Premiere of Spatium at SXSW 2017.
The debut piece of a VR trilogy inspired by one of designer Philip Treacy’s most famous creations. ‘Spatium’ brings together design, installation, VR, sonic immersion, hip-hop, house… and hats.
From our early experiments livestreaming fashion in VR for Topshop to more conceptual work with Gareth Puth, INITION has long had a reputation for pushing boundaries, particularly at the intersection where technology, fashion and creativity meet.
Celebrating convergence, Spatium brings together the worlds of image creation (Roland Lane), immersive technologies (INITION), music (Rhythm Section International and Hidden Spheres), spatial sound and audio (Mixed Immersion) and site installation (Lucio Cavallari). The work – part of a trilogy – premieres at SXSW 2017 within the Style and VR Cinema categories.
While in the real world, Treacy’s creations are constrained by limitations of space and the physical properties of materials, in the virtual world they can exist as pure concepts. Here, in a way that only VR makes possible, structure and form are explored on a scale that escapes the bounds of the physical, creating a fantasy of light, sound and shadow.
The remaining two parts are planned for production in summer 2017. While these pieces are conceived to include physical models and object interaction, Spatium -– the central segment – represents the breathing space between.
Come and visit us at SXSW. We will be exhibiting on the 4th floor of the JW Mariott hotel. Or find out more about Spatium here.
