Spartan Race Singapore - Mega Adventure Team Building

Spartan Race Singapore - Mega Adventure Team Building

Team building through activities

Unsurprisingly, we're a pretty adventurous bunch over at Mega Adventure, and our most recent outing involved taking on the 13km, 30 obstacle Spartan Super event - a challenge that a few of us from work took on as a team.

The event itself was a great way to work in tough conditions with people who you normally converse with in the office, at lunch, or over a few after-work drinks. It was also interesting to see how each person reacted in the situations that the route sprung upon us, and what helped to motivate each other along the way.

Training as a team

The most value, however, came throughout the preceding months. Firstly, I would never even have signed up for such an event were it not for someone from the office asking if I fancied doing it, and creating a team from work. From then on, Spartan Race provided an additional, ongoing social topic that a number of us could relate to. We had something to train towards, which certainly kept us in check. When someone turned up on a Monday morning having just done a 10km run, you'd know you've got some catching up to do that week. It wasn't competitive, but there were regular reminders about what was coming up, and we know that in order for us to enjoy it, we would need to be in reasonable shape.

There are countless articles that highlight the benefits of exercising with friends, and I struggle to disagree with many of their points. This is where the most obvious advantages existed during our training for Spartan. As we were all in the same boat, we would organise times to get together and train. Not all the time, as people still had their own regimes, but enough to keep everyone on track and feeling part of the team.

From someone who would never have signed up for this event as an individual, to now registering for the 20km Spartan Beast version is testament to the power of team based activities. The team for the next event has grown, and I'm looking forward to the next few months worth of training with the ladies and gentlemen I call my colleagues and friends. I'd highly recommend getting a team of friends and colleagues together to commit and sign up for such an event, for both the physical advantages, as well as the social and work place benefits for the team.

Couldn't agree more Ramond C.. There is a wide variety of advantages that will vary in relevance between individuals and team.

Great article about teamwork, I can honestly say the 20k would be beast mode. I find that exercising with friends not only helps in bringing out the camaraderie, but you get to learn what everyone's strengths and weaknesses are, outside of the working environment. It's a fantastic way to see the dynamics of a team and for managers, to learn how to fully optimise a team to the best of their ability.
