Once upon a time, there used to be a flock of 8 sparrows, who used to reside peacefully in their nest. There was one head of the sparrows, Granny, who used to rule and monitor each sparrow's activity. All the sparrows loved doing the duty as given by their Granny. One sparrow, from the group of 8, used to put his extra efforts and tried to impressing granny. He always desired his work to be acknowledged and complimented.
During the initial days other Sparrows were pretty unaware of his intentions and hence supported and encouraged him. As time passed, he came under the impression that bit only was he the most beloved sparrow of Granny but also no one can work like him. He soon started to fantasize the idea of leading the knot. In the quest of impressing granny and seeking all her attention he started to purloin credit of the work done by other sparrows. His actions weren't intentionally, he was suffering from a disease called 'attention seeker', he was not able to ascertain whether his actions were right or wrong. But the granny was one step ahead from the sparrow, she used to take complete advantage of his nature and started getting her work finished foolishly.
She wanted other sparrows to get an idea that any tricks one would do to take the credit of other's work, she will always know that the work was done by whom. One day, this attention seeker sparrow started thinking that he is smarter than everyone and if he looks like other sparrows, people will be unable to find out that he is unique and different from others. He started thinking of some way for the same. One fine day, as he was flying in the sky, he saw some green color smoke coming out from the chimney of a building. He thought if he gets himself colored with green, he will look like Parrot and as he will be different from other sparrow in the appearance, people will identify him easily. So, he flew himself inside the green smoke and started having the feeling that he is looking like parrot now.
When he returned to his nest he was looking just like a crooked old bird with no natural color. While he started working and only doing the work which granny has assigned him. People started calling him mithoo one who does yes sir with no say of his opinion. His peers started disliking him and started backbiting about him. But he was least bothered and always in the dream to be head of nest. Destiny had played its role. As family of granny had increased, she assigned her position to the one whose credit mithoo use to take and went to lead group of nests.
This mithoo who spent entire life on only seeking attention and less work was disappointed. He went and fought with granny. I have supported you in each cause. Each work which was assigned by you, I made sure it got completed. granny replied mithoo. he was stunned as even granny was knowing that people call him mithoo. I understand you completed the task, but you didn’t complete it as your duty. you did it as the intention to seek my attention and with only ambition to become head of the nest by any mean. This led you to do unethical things and you started seeking credits which was done by your peers. Leader isn’t the one who rules people, leader is one who encourages people and imbibes trust in them.
Do the work for yourself not for your agenda.
It’s all right to expect acknowledgment and wish for compliment. But this won’t help you to grow in long run. This will limit your thoughts and actions.
Do your duty whole heartedly and the results are sure to be seen.
