The Spark: Art of Belief 26/06/2023

She was only 1 year old when World War II began. Living in her own house, she shared a hidden basement with her parents to evade the occupying Nazis.

Opportunities for a fair life and education were scarce, but there was always a saying:

Lucy, you have to study; your knowledge will ‘open the doors’.

She persevered, studying diligently by the light of a single candle, even sharing one pair of shoes with her sister to ensure both could attend school.

After completing ninth grade, she left her hometown for college and university afterwards, venturing into a new city with nothing but determination to shape her future career.

With unwavering resolve, she embarked on her educational journey, juggling work and night school while excelling as an auditor.

Over the years, she rose through the ranks, becoming a formidable leader overseeing departments with hundreds of employees.

She was one of the few women building their careers in a competitive male-dominated environment, facing numerous challenges along the way, she became a leader and motivator for hundreds.

I still remember sitting in her office at the age of 3, gazing at this remarkable woman. As the days passed, I gradually understood that regardless of the era we live in, certain truths remain unshakable:

1. Never give up, no matter what obstacles come your way.

2. Competition may be fierce, but persistence is the key to overcoming it.

3. Facing your fears head-on often leads to valuable results.

4. Women are enigmatic beings who can build successful careers and nurturing families the same time.

5. Knowledge is a power.

She taught me the art of belief in myself.

Her name is Lucy—and she is my inspirational grandma.
