Spanning The Globe
Sramana Mitra
Founder and CEO of One Million by the One Million (1Mby1M) Global Virtual Accelerator
During this week’s roundtable, we worked with five entrepreneurs from around the world.
Project Starfish
First up, Subhashish Acharya from Boston, MA, pitched Project Starfish, a social enterprise focused on teaching blind people computer skills, and then engaging them in paid projects, working for small and large companies. It was a fascinating presentation, a noble enterprise, that already has some traction. We discussed scaling strategies.
BaelHR
Next, Dharma Sivalingam from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, pitched BaelHR, a cloud-based HR solution. I am not convinced that yet another HR solution would do so well in the already crowded market.
Study Kloud
Then, Tapas Sarkar from Mumbai, India, pitched Study Kloud, an online portal for helping students in India evaluate and apply for colleges and universities. The portal addresses the issue that many second and third tier colleges and universities have unfilled seats, while students who may have qualified do not find an academic placement. The market is inefficient, information flow inadequate, and Study Kloud aims to address this problem.
Kenshotree
Also, Dege Nsoki, located in San Diego, CA, pitched Kenshotree, a marketplace for connecting coaches with customers. Dege wants to start with leadership coaches, followed by management coaches and expand into health and wellness.
Creative Hands
Last up, Dushyant Parikh from Ahmedabad, India, pitched Creative Hands, another fascinating social enterprise that is connecting artisans in India with design houses like Ralph Lauren and Eileen Fisher to develop handmade, unique products for those brands. I have a deep passion for design, fashion, artisans, and this whole field of harnessing untapped creativity and talent. Those of you who have read my Vision India 2020 book will recognize some of these ideas.
