This 1927 Spanish Colonial Revival sits above Sunset Boulevard in the heart of the Hollywood Hills.
It has been owned since 1999 by celebrity interior designer Craig Wright, whose clients includes Michael Douglas, Dan Aykroyd, James Coburn and James Garner.
“Right now there is nothing on the market here in Los Angeles that’s remotely like it,” said listing agent Sally Forster Jones. “It’s just the style, the features, the quality—that’s what makes it unique.”
“It’s all inviting and cozy,” she said. “He had a lot of Hollywood elite coming to the house.”
In his decade-long remodel of the rambling old house, Mr. Wright sought inspiration from the Andalusia, a historic 1920s apartment complex in Hollywood where he had previously lived, according to Architectural Digest.
“He has used lots of different styles in the house, but it all feels pulled together,” Ms. Jones said. “He also collects antiques and it’s full of beautiful antiques.”
“It’s very private with intimate areas throughout,” she said. “There are lots of nooks and crannies and private seating areas.”
Other architectural and design details include hand-crafted moldings, bronze-casted heating grates, archways, elaborate chandeliers, cove ceilings, built-ins, hardwood floors and classic columns.
“What is special is the library—with double-height ceilings, an ornate fireplace, and a wet bar,” Ms. Jones said. “It has been featured in Architectural Digest numerous times.”
The house also has a formal dining room and a sleek, all-white kitchen, which is outfitted with Thermador appliances, floor-to-ceiling subway tiles, and stone countertops.
“The bedrooms are all different,” Ms. Jones said. “All are suites with unique styles.”
Stats
The 6,550-square-foot house has six bedrooms and seven full bathrooms.
Amenities
Outdoor amenities include a romantic courtyard with a dining area, fireplace, plunge pool and Italian sculptures.
Neighborhood notes
“It’s not high up in the hills—it’s two minutes from the Sunset Strip, at the max,” Ms. Jones said. “Many of the young celebrities favor this area.”
“It’s close to West Hollywood, with its many bars and restaurants,” she said. “It’s close to Beverly Hills. It’s close to all of the action.”
