How can you benefit from SpaceOS in other industries?

?Partners or cyber security researchers often ask us at Parsimoni if SpaceOS's industry-first security and efficiency could be adapted to other use cases/industries. The answer is “yes,” here are the details of what this means.

SpaceOS is exciting for the satellite industry due to its very small size (20-50x smaller versus alternatives): the same benefit can be achieved for ANY user of MirageOS (a core part of SpaceOS), irrespective of the industry: IoT, edge computing, Smart Cities, smart medical devices, smart automobiles, wind farms… the list is endless. If there is any local (IoT / edge) software - MirageOS can make that software take up less space.

SpaceOS is also known for its very high level of cyber security. This security is provided thanks to the following:

• Unikernel architecture (much smaller attack surface)
• Exclusive use of a memory-safe programming language
• Formally verified components

And the good news is that all these features also apply to any non-space use case!

But MirageOS can do more – its benefits have great potential for many industries in addition to the space sector. The list is long, but here are some examples:

• Use of Irmin for highly efficient data collection and async data transfer for solar-powered IoT devices
• Set-top boxes – use very low-power processors and less memory to reduce cost (as other platforms very likely need more powerful and so more costly processors)?
• Truck black boxes – highly secure, very low cost
• Smart medical devices –? strong protection against cyber attacks

In general, in any area where security and efficiency are critical - MirageOS can add value.
