Space To Village: Red Carpet Edition

Space To Village: Red Carpet Edition

And the Oscar goes to...

In this edition of Space to Village, we're announcing some "awards" in categories for leadership development, team building and upskilling.

Best Director?

Even natural-born leaders have a lot to learn as they develop into managers, directors and senior advisors. For me, in addition to growing and developing HR skills, I like to have a baseline knowledge of the areas where I have hired or managed specialists to maintain and lead. In other words, if you want to be a leader, you need to continually develop core skills in addition to soft skills.?

Looking for resources to upskill or learn something new? I took a General Assembly course a few years ago; I thought it was well-designed, and impactful and I learned a lot.

Best Environment for Hybrid Employees to Thrive

I do a lot of thinking about employee engagement using internal and external strategies. When I started out in communications, I used to clip news articles from print newspaper editions and circulate a photocopy version around to the staff. On Fridays, I faxed out my organization’s newsletter. Lots of changed since 2002, but in many ways we’re using broadcast tools to communicate to individuals with very specialized roles and interests.?

Josh Bersin has done a lot of research and work on driving employee engagement. Read more here:

Best Supporting Actor For A Person in a Leading Role

Feedback is a gift. As a leader, it’s not always easy to hear feedback but you have to create the conditions for your team to give you consistent feedback and insights. More from the Harvard Business Review team:

Best Book About Growing Employees in a Rock Star Mode

This LinkedIn newsletter is a Radical Candor? stan account. Since I first read the book, I’ve really fixated on this concept of rock stars vs. superstars. More from the Radical Candor podcast.

Best Actor for Future of Human Space Exploration

Are you at #SXSW? Learn how my friend Ché B. , Inter Astra and The Charles F. Bolden Group are supporting strategy and vision for the next era of human spaceflight!

Best Story

My alma mater Kent State University ’s Men’s Basketball Team clinched the MAC tournament championship. Next stop: NCAA Tournament! Fun fact: for two years, I played mellophone in the Flasher Brass, the Kent State basketball pep band - very fond memories!
