Space for movement, thought and reciprocity - why no one at Papaya has their own desk?
The effect of employees' interaction on their creativity and professional development (and in consequence on the company's success), hasn't been a secret to the managers for quite some time now. What still seems to be difficult to grasp though, is the fact that a regular open space is no longer sufficient for creating optimal conditions for development of the team as well as business, and that a well-planned office space is one of the most important investments in the future of the company.
Well prepared space for work, relaxation and mealtime can entirely transform the energy within the team. The way employees of different positions, skills and expertise, executing different tasks and aiming at different goals meet each other, significantly influences their versatility and approach to projects they work on. This in turn, is directly and quickly affecting the quality of their work. What is more, the arrangement of the office space should not only be consistent with the nature of a job, but most importantly - with the identity and philosophy of the company itself.
We designed our Warsaw Papaya Films office in the circle - with no beginning and no end. We opened the space completely not only for the freedom in movement but thought as well. None of us has an assigned desk and the management have no private offices. Every day we choose where we're gonna work and with whom we're gonna share the space, often changing our minds in the course of the day thanks to the unexpected configurations and constantly changing circumstances. What for some could be certain instability, for us makes it possible to constantly develop and remain open-minded - gives us freedom necessary in creative producers' work.
The diversity of personalities, skills, expertise, aspirations, interests and temperaments lies at the core of Papaya team and is considered our biggest strength. Thanks to the space that encourages natural, organic interaction, learning from each other and mutual inspiration, we can fully benefit from our biggest assets - openness and constant urge to change for better.
