Space Junk Threatens Worldwide Communications

Since the Space Race that began in the 1950s over 11,000 satellites have been shot into orbit above the earth. And because of decay and collisions 170,000 tiny pieces of broken metal are travelling at a speed of 17,000 miles an hour among the midst of these world satellites. One very tiny piece recently struck the International Space Station. It put a hole right through the large arm used for lifting heavy equipment like it was a 9mm shot from gun. -- Incredibly, there are no international controls over where these satellites are sent into space. It is like not having control towers at airports. Collisions now are inevitable! More and more will occur. And each collision will create thousands of additional space junk, making satellite space uninhabitable for any technology. Imagine the catastrophic effects this inevitability will create?

But on the bright side: Without cell phones and the Internet, 20th Century communication: newspapers, radio, old telephones and phone booths, and TV may return as the world’s primary form of communication again. Then, without the social networks, perhaps some sanity, a proper sense of being a local community, and divisions between neighbors, family, and friends will be fewer.

P.S. In addition, Elon Musk is sending 10,000 more satellites (Star Link) into space this decade in an effort to monopolize the Internet.
