Space Insights | November 2024
Hello there,
Welcome to the November edition of Space Insights from BAE Systems Digital Intelligence .
It’s hard to believe that we’re already in the final quarter of the year. But, with summer feeling like distant memory, the countdown to 2025 is starting to gather pace.
Since we last spoke, myself and several members of our space team attended the UK Space Command Defence Space Conference 2024 in London for what was a hugely productive and informative couple of days. It was interesting to see that many of the discussions and panels showed an increase in international cooperation and a strong need for clear roadmaps and future requirements for the sector to innovate and deliver against – messages that we are firmly behind.
We’re also fresh off the boat from the International Astronautical Congress (IAC) 2024 in Milan. Our brilliant team hosted several visitors and delegations on our stand, where we discussed the importance of keeping the space environment secure and open to exploration, peaceful use, and international co-operation by present and future generations.
I also recently had the pleasure of being invited to lunch with Quebec Minister Martine Biron and participate in a discussion with some fabulous women working on gender equality projects and women's participation in economic development. I shared some of the work of the Rise Together Alliance and Women in Aerospace Europe UK to get more women in senior positions across the space sector, as well as programmes supporting diversity in BAE Systems.
Finally, October 4th was World Space Week. Amongst the outreach activities the Space team supported, I was part of the #AimHigher for Sea & Space 2024 event at the Science Museum and engineer Dr Lucinda King delivered Virtual Digital School sessions on ‘Cleaning up Space!’.
Until next time,
