The Space Between Words: Enhancing Your Listening Skills

The Space Between Words: Enhancing Your Listening Skills

What emerges in between?

This episode is an 'experiment' between Claire Pedrick and Oscar Trimboli as a result of an introduction by Shaney Crawford from Japan.

They explore the role of

  1. second languages,
  2. the value of silence,
  3. and the importance of understanding the past.

What does a group listening audit sound and look like?

The experiment will continue for the next few episodes as they see what emerges in between episodes.

Interesting discussion - breaks included. And yes, they were long. I think they get artificially "longer" by the tech because it takes a sec or two for the mikes to stop recording, so there is quiet and there is non-recording and they sound differently. The pregnant vs the non-pregnant pause. Btw, I don't know what about the pregnant pause that has a negative connotation. It is so loaded with energy and something about to burst forth that it is almost tangible. You can say that in cultures/groups that don't listen, they may kill the baby by not allowing for the pause to do its thing, but that doesn't make the pause awkward - that just makes the lack of listening counterproductive. Thank you for the audit resource. I hope B was the leader who didn't need to do anything ?? . If not that, might quiet anonymous brainstorming work to include everybody's perspectives? Often the quiet person doesn't get to speak or has been "overspoken" so often they have stopped speaking in meetings, but if their idea is what is being discussed, that helps them being "rediscovered".
