Minister Husic Addresses Space Sector in Adelaide: The Minister for Industry and Science, the Hon Ed Husic MP, addressed the Australian Space Forum last week in Adelaide. The Minister announced that the Technology Safeguards Agreement (TSA) with the United States has come into effect, stating “it’s a great deal for Australia and our space industry”. Remarking upon a Future Made in Australia, he also highlighted the space industry’s contribution to developing critical technologies and the importance of supporting STEM education. Southern Launch UNASTELLA Agreement: SIAA Member Southern Launch and South Korean rocket manufacturer UNASTELLA Corporation have signed a Launch Facility Agreement for UNASTELLA to launch from Australia. The agreement enables UNASTELLA to aim for at least four launches per year from Southern Launch’s facilities. Southern Launch will now work closely with UNASTELLA to gain regulatory approval for the launches with the first scheduled for late 2025.???Southern Launch also recently announced that SpaceWorks Enterprises has signed a Range Facility Agreement to return their RED capsules to the Koonibba Test Range. The agreement follows the signing of an MoU between the two companies in April.??

iLAuNCH Trailblazer Space Camera: SIAA Member iLAuNCH Trailblazer has announced an upcoming project to develop ‘new eye in the sky technology’—a space camera that can provide images back to Earth at high speed that will aid in disaster resilience operations, land management, and defence. This multi-sensor camera is now in development with Leonardo, Spiral Blue, Nominal Systems and SIAA Member the Australian National University, brought together under the iLAuNCH Trailblazer project.?

Planet Allied Government Agency Deal: SIAA Member Planet Labs has announced a contract extension with Allied Government Agency, a US-allied international government agency. Under the agreement, Planet will supply high-resolution satellite imagery from the company’s SkySat fleet. Planet Labs also secured a pilot contract from an international defense ministry for the company’s PlanetScope data, now enhanced with an AI-based Theia solution from US satellite analytics and intelligence company, SynMax.??

UK Space Agency Funding Awarded: At the recent Farnborough Airshow, the UK Space Agency announced the awarding of £33M to over 20 innovation-forward space projects. Recipients include SIAA Member Spire Global, awarded £3.5M to build a Hyperspectral Microwave Sounder weather instrument.?

LeoLabs Selected for Project Tyche: SIAA Member LeoLabs has been chosen to support the United Kingdom Space Command's Project Tyche, a research and development satellite developed under the UK’s ISTARI program.? LeoLabs will provide space tracking, monitoring, and collision avoidance services for the launch and operation of the satellite.?

NASA HWO Selection: SIAA Member BAE Systems , in collaboration with L3Harris Technologies and the Space Telescope Science Institute, has been selected as one of three industry teams to develop technologies for NASA's Habitable Worlds Observatory (HWO). The HWO is a telescope designed to investigate Earth-like planets orbiting other stars to assess their potential to support life.??

KBR, Inc. LinQuest Acquisition: SIAA Member KBR has announced that the company will acquire LinQuest Corp., a specialist in national security space systems, for USD$737 million. The deal to acquire LinQuest is expected to close in late 2024, subject to regulatory approvals.??

UniSA New Facility and Industry Funding: The University of South Australia (UniSA ) opened a new Advanced Manufacturing facility this week and announced over $18 million in industry investment into four space research projects under SIAA Member the iLAuNCH Trailblazer. The new Advanced Manufacturing Metal 3D printing facility is located at St?rke-AMG group’s VPG Innovation, in Adelaide’s Camden Park. Industry partners in the four announced projects include SIAA Foundation Member Northrop Grumman, Spiral Blue and entX.?

SmartSat CRC and New Zealand Government Projects: SmartSat CRC has announced four new space research projects jointly funded with the New Zealand Government’s Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment. The projects are set to commence in August 2024, marking the first phase of the Australia-New Zealand Collaborative Space Program. Additionally, SmartSat CRC and the South Australian (SA) Government have announced a partnership to explore the data capability of South Australia’s Kanyini satellite. The SA Government has committed $500,000 to two pilot new research projects that will make use of AI-based analytics and hyperspectral imagery captured by Kanyini.?

ANT61 SOMPO Japan MoU: ANT61 has announced the signing of an MoU with SOMPO Japan and SOMPO Risk Management. Under the agreement, ANT61 will bring the company’s Beacon technology to Japanese satellite operators and manufacturers.??

China: The China Aerospace Science and Technology Corp has announced the successful launch of the Gaofen 11E Remote-Sensing Satellite. The satellite lifted off from Taiyuan Satellite Launch Center aboard a Long March 4B rocket early on July 21, and successfully arrived in orbit.?

NSW Government Space+ Program Launched?

SIAA Foundation Member NSW Government has officially opened applications for the NSW Space+ Program. The NSW Space+ Program will empower the space-related industry ecosystem of NSW, creating State-based opportunities for industry, research organisations, SMEs, researchers, and students. Investment NSW has engaged SmartSat CRC to support and manage the program.?

The NSW Government has committed $500,000 to this program to support NSW businesses in commercialising and showcasing their world-leading capabilities to a global audience at the upcoming 76th International Astronautical Congress (IAC) in 2025.??

Call for Abstracts of the Global Space Exploration Conference (GLEX 2025) Open?

The International Astronautical Federation (IAF), as the Organizer, together with its Member the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), as the Host, and the Astronautical Society of India, as the Co-Host, are pleased to announce the opening of the Call for Abstracts of the Global Space Exploration Conference (GLEX 2025) to be held on 7-9 May 2025 in New Delhi, India.?

The focus of this year includes "Ground Equipment & Services," "Satellite Manufacturing," "Satellite Services," and "Satellite Launch," and other topics.
