iLAuNCH Trailblazer Health Project Announced: SIAA Member iLAuNCH Trailblazer has announced an upcoming project that will utilise AI to monitor the health of astronauts, patients and remote workers, striving to predict and monitor physiological changes to human spaceflight. The project is led by SIAA member the Australian National University (ANU), in partnership with SIAA Member Aspen Medical, Saber Astronautics and Liquid Instruments.?

Earlier this month iLAuNCH also announced a project dedicated towards resilient radio for satellite communication, partnering with ANU and SIAA Member Inovor Technologies. The project will see the partners co-develop a new software-defined radio (SDR) solution for an on-orbit demonstration of capability. The solution is planned to be integrated onboard all of Inovor’s locally manufactured satellites.?

ELO2 Australia Tour: Following the unveiling of three new moon rover prototypes in March, the ELO2 consortium is taking the prototypes on a tour across Australia. The team has visited Adelaide, Canberra and Brisbane and will be heading to Sydney this week during the Aus Space Summit—coinciding with Australian Made Week. The ELO2 Consortium is co-led by EPE and SIAA Member Lunar Outpost Oceania.??

Viasat LEO Expansion: SIAA Member Viasat has announced plans to integrate LEO capacity for all mobile broadband services. The company has begun conversations with several LEO constellation operators to expand Viasat’s connectivity to become multi-orbit.??

South Australian Scaleup Program Launched: Six start-up space companies have enlisted in the University of South Australia’s 'Growth Ramp space pathway ’, delivered in collaboration with the Innovation & Collaboration Centre. The program is a six-month scale-up program for space companies. Representatives from AICRAFT, ESpy Ocean, HEX20, Orbital Blue, ResearchSat and Robinson Aerospace Systems have enlisted in the inaugural program.?

Lockheed Martin Terran Orbital Contract: SIAA Foundation Member Lockheed Martin has selected Terran Orbital to develop18 satellite buses for the U.S. Space Development Agency's (SDA) Proliferated Warfighter Space Architecture (PWSA) Tranche 2.??

Air and Space Power Conference: The Royal Australian Air Force’s 2024 Air and Space Power Conference recently took place in Canberra on May 9. During his keynote, U.S. Space Force Chief of Space Operations Gen. Chance Saltzman spotlighted the importance of the U.S.-Australia strategic partnership. Salzman specifically reiterated the goals of the AUKUS partnership with regards to space, stating that these initiatives “bolster our shared defensive capabilities by sending a clear message to potential adversaries—any attempt to undermine the security and stability of the [Indo-Pacific region] will be met with unwavering resolve.”?

LeoLabs NOAA Contract: SIAA Member LeoLabs has secured a contract from the U.S. National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) to advance space traffic coordination. LeoLabs will support the development of the civil-led U.S. Traffic Coordination System for Space.??

IN-SPACe Policy Released: The Indian National Space Promotion and Authorisation Centre (IN-SPACe) has formally released the "Norms, Guidelines, and Procedures for Implementation of the Indian Space Policy 2023 in respect of authorisation of space activities." The document outlines detailed procedures for obtaining authorisation to conduct space activities within Indian territory, providing clarity and guidance for all stakeholders involved in the industry. Blue Origin Crewed Flight: Blue Origin has resumed the company’s New Shepard suborbital flights, with the first crewed mission in almost two years taking off on May 19. The suborbital spaceflight took off with a six-person crew including Ed Dwight, a 90-year-old former U.S. Air Force pilot who was selected by the Kennedy administration to be the first African American astronaut candidate over six decades ago. Blue Origin marked the mission as a success despite a reported parachute issue.?

Starliner Mission Postponed: The first crewed launch of Boeing's Starliner spacecraft has been postponed, with NASA tentatively citing June 1 as the next potential launch date. The inaugural test flight will transport two astronauts to the International Space Station (ISS). June 2, 5 and 6 have been cited by NASA as other possible alternative flight dates.??

Artemis Accords: Lithuania has become the latest nation to sign onto NASA’s Artemis Accords, bringing the total number of signatories to 40.??

HEO Student Conference Attendance Sponsorships?

SIAA Member HEO will be sponsoring 10 students to attend the 2024 CubeSatPlus workshop at UNSW, Sydney on July 9 & 10. Applications are open to all current undergraduate and postgraduate students looking to get involved in the space industry.??

To apply, applicants can send an email to [email protected] expressing why they would like to attend and their aspirations for working in space.??

In collaboration with the Space Generation Advisory Council, Secure World Foundation, HEO is additionally offering scholarships to attend the 6th Summit for Space Sustainability in Tokyo, Japan, from July 11-12, 2024. There are six scholarships available, covering travel, accommodation, and event access.?

Upcoming?SIAA Industry?Study?Tours

JAPAN Industry?Study?Tour

Dates: 4-5 July

Location: Tokyo

Across two days the SIAA Japan Industry?Study?Tour?will meet with representatives from the space sector across industry and government, as well as engaging with Australian in-country representatives to support international collaboration. The Japanese space sector as a key international market in the Indo-Pacific region that can be leveraged by SIAA members. This?study?tour?will be held the week before the SPACETIDE 2024 conference (8-10 July) and the 6th?Summit for Space Sustainability (11-12 July) hosted by the Secure World Foundation.


SIAA is engaging with the SPACETIDE team to support the inclusion of Australian space industry as part of the conference and is also working with the Secure World Foundation to represent that Australian space industry at the Summit.

INDIA Industry?Study?Tour

Dates: 23-26 September

Location: Bengaluru, Hyderabad

The SIAA India Industry?Study?Tour?will engage with Indian space companies and key government representatives across the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and INSPACE. The?study?tour?will be held the week after the Bengaluru Space Expo 2024 (18-20 September), allowing members the opportunity to attend BSX 2024 and then join the Industry?Study?Tour?to further industry connections. The Indian space sector offers a wealth of opportunities for the Australian space sector as both a key partner for Australian space industry as well as a customer of Australian space capability across the supply chain. The 2023 Indian Space Policy in combination with changes to India’s Foreign Direct Investment policy unlocks new opportunities for the international space sector, bolstered by India’s ambitions as a key space-faring nation.


SIAA industry association partner, SIA-India will support the delivery of the SIAA India Industry?Study?Tour, drawing on their industry connections and expertise to develop a comprehensive program to foster meaningful partnership opportunities between the Australian and Indian space sectors.

ITALY Industry?Study?Tour

Dates: 21-24 October

Locations: Milan, Rome, Northern Italy

The SIAA Italy Industry?Study?tour?will be held the week after IAC 2024 Milan (14-18 October) and offers SIAA members and members of the space sector the opportunity to engage with the Italian Space?Agency, the Italian Trade Agency, Italian space primes and startups, and relevant government departments to explore collaboration opportunities. This?study?tour?will build on previous space industry initiatives to explore potential collaboration opportunities between the Italian and Australian space ecosystems, including an industry webinar jointly hosted by the Space Industry Association of Australia, the Australian Space Agency, Investment NSW in partnership with the Italian Trade Agency and Italian Space Agency.
