SIAA's Southern Space will be attended by over 300 individuals from across government and industry, with the opening address delivered by the Head of the Australian Space Agency, Enrico Palermo. Panel sessions will explore a range of topics including sovereign space manufacturing, ground segment, the lunar economy, next generation space technologies and more.?

Australian Space Education Program:?SIAA Foundation member?Lockheed Martin?has signed an MoU with SIAA member the University of New South Wales Canberra Space to contribute to a comprehensive space education programme with both research and development and industry engagement pathways. The two-year agreement will help Australia to develop the capabilities, training and educational opportunities required to grow the future space workforce.?
Integration of Space-Based Sensors into HEO Inspect Software:?This week, SIAA member?HEO Robotics?and Axelspace Corporation announced a partnership to give HEO Robotics’ satellite inspection software platform, HEO Inspect, access to 5 space-based sensors, with HEO Robotics’ now having access to 35 space-based sensors. Axelspace’s detailed satellite imagery will empower HEO Inspect’s flyby inspection and computer-vision capabilities to provide in-orbit inspection, identification, verification and monitoring services. The software provides insights to satellite operators to advance their understanding of their space asset and its environment, providing real-time information and innovative space services.?HEO Robotics?also received the InnovationAus 2022 Award for Excellence in Space, Earth Observation and Geospatial Awareness this week.?
Fleet Space Technologies Grows US Presence:?SIAA member?Fleet Space Technologies?has expanded its presence in the United States with the appointment of a US-based Chief Revenue Officer. The Chief Revenue Officer will support and build Fleet Space’s growing US and international account management teams. Additionally, Fleet Space CRO will have overall responsibility for all matters relating to revenue generation, including sales, new business development and delivering customer-facing services.?
Artemis 1 Mission Launch:?This week, NASA’s?Artemis 1 mission?successfully launched from Cape Canaveral, Florida. The 25-day mission will see the human-rated, unmanned Orion spacecraft orbit the moon before returning to Earth on 11 December. The Artemis 1 mission also launched a?JAXA?lunar lander, OMOTENASHI, which has successfully separated from the Space Launch Systems rocket but has experienced some communication difficulties with the JAXA team.?
First UK Spaceport License:?Spaceport Cornwall has received the first UK?spaceport license?from the UK’s Civil Aviation Authority, allowing the spaceport to host launches by Virgin Orbit’s LauncherOne air-launch system. Companies launching from Spaceport Cornwall require their own additional launch licenses also issued by the UK Civil Aviation Authority.?
SpaceX:?NASA has awarded?SpaceX?a second contract to develop its Starship human landing system to meet the space agency’s requirements for lunar exploration as part of the Artemis missions. The $1.15 billion contract for the?second crewed landing demonstration mission will be provided by SpaceX as early as 2027.?
