ISI Grant Recipients: The Australian Government has awarded a total of $18 million to three collaborative projects as part of the Australian Space Agency International Space Investment (ISI)?India Projects program. SIAA Member Skykraft has been awarded $3.7 million to propose and validate a new Position, Navigation and Timing system. SIAA Member Space Machines Company was awarded more than $8.5 million for Space MAITRI, a mission demonstrating concepts such as on-orbit transportation and space debris mitigation. LatConnect 60 Ltd was awarded nearly $5.8 million to develop and build a satellite IN LEO to collect information on carbon emissions. Each of the projects will include a number of Australian and Indian partners.?

HyImpulse Successful Launch: German aerospace company HyImpulse have successfully launched the SR75 rocket from SIAA Member Southern Launch ’s Koonibba Test Range. The launch, which marked the inaugural launch attempt of the SR75 rocket, was the first from Southern Launch ’s new permanent facilities at the Koonibba Test Range. The SR75 rocket is one of the largest commercially launched rockets in Australia.?

Starliner Mission Postponed: The inaugural crewed test flight of Boeing's Starliner spaceship has been postponed to May 17 after engineers discovered a faulty oxygen relief valve. The test flight will launch two NASA astronauts to the International Space Station (ISS) for approximately eight days.?

Geoscience Australia Strategy 2028: Geoscience Australia has released the organisation’s latest strategy, linked here . The strategy mentions Geoscience Australia’s intention to implement their first national space mission, operating Australian satellites that will monitor Australia’s lands and coasts.??
Lockheed Martin Terran Orbital Acquisition: SIAA Foundation Member Lockheed Martin has formally withdrawn the company’s proposal to purchase Terran Orbital, a US based manufacturer of small satellites. In the proposal, Lockheed Martin had offered to acquire approximately two-thirds of Terran Orbital stock it did not already own.??

BAE Systems NASA Contract: SIAA Member BAE Systems recently won a $365 million NASA contract to develop an air quality sensor for U.S. geostationary weather satellites. The company will develop the GeoXO Atmospheric Composition instrument for deployment on the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) upcoming Geostationary Extended Observations satellite constellation.?

Rocket Lab Subcontractors Selected: SIAA Member Rocket Lab has announced the company’s selection of subcontractors that will supply payloads and ground systems for the 18 satellites Rocket Lab will develop for the U.S. Space Development Agency (SDA). The 18 satellites will form part of the SDA's Proliferated Warfighter Space Architecture (PWSA) Tranche 2 Transport Layer-Beta. The selected subcontractors include SIAA Member Collins Aerospace.??

Spire Global Financial Firm Deal: SIAA Member Spire Global has secured a multi-million-dollar deal with an undisclosed financial firm to deliver advanced weather forecasting solutions. Spire will provide its High-Resolution Weather Forecast model to deliver the solution. ?

China: The China National Space Administration recently confirmed that the Chang'e 6 probe has successfully entered lunar orbit. The spacecraft was launched aboard a Long March 5 rocket from the Wenchang Space Launch Center in Hainan, China. The Chang’e mission will attempt to return samples from the moon's far side. China’s Long March 6C rocket also marked its inaugural launch on May 8, deploying four satellites into orbit.??

SES to Acquire Intelsat: Luxembourg-based satellite operator SES is set to purchase Intelsat, a fellow satellite operator, for $3.1 billion USD. The deal is expected to close in 2025.??

Arlula EO Integration with Saber: It was recently announced that Arlula’s Earth Observation (EO) Data Application has been integrated into Saber Astronautics’ Space Application Marketplace (SAM). Arlula’s Data Application represents the first, third-party satellite imagery solution within SAM.?

Moon to Mars Supply Chain Capability Improvement Grants?
Intake 11 of the Australian Government’s Moon to Mars Supply Chain Capability Improvement Grants will open on Tuesday 4 June 2024.??
The Australian Moon to Mars Supply Chain Capability Improvement Grants provide Australian businesses with grant funds to build capacity to deliver products and services into domestic and/or international space industry supply chains that could support Moon to Mars activities.??
Grants range from $250,000 up to $1 million, to fund up to 75% of eligible project expenditure. Australian businesses with a demonstrated domestic and/or international space supply chain opportunity are eligible to apply.??

Industry Growth Program Grants Open?
Applications are open for the Australian Government’s Industry Growth Program.??
The program provides an Advisory Service for startups and small and medium enterprises (SMEs) undertaking innovative commercialisation and/or growth projects that are within the priority areas of the Australian Government’s National Reconstruction Fund (NRF) and help build Australia’s manufacturing capability for the future.?
Eligible businesses will be connected with an Industry Growth Program Adviser, who will provide advice to support commercialisation, growth opportunities and priorities. Businesses are then eligible to apply for grants.??

JAPAN Industry?Study?Tour?

Across two days the SIAA Japan Industry?Study?Tour?will meet with representatives from the space sector across industry and government, as well as engaging with Australian in-country representatives to support international collaboration. The Japanese space sector as a key international market in the Indo-Pacific region that can be leveraged by SIAA members. This?study?tour?will be held the week before the SPACETIDE 2024 conference (8-10 July) and the 6th?Summit for Space Sustainability (11-12 July) hosted by the Secure World Foundation.?

SIAA is engaging with the SPACETIDE team to support the inclusion of Australian space industry as part of the conference and is also working with the Secure World Foundation to represent that Australian space industry at the Summit.?

INDIA Industry?Study?Tour?
Dates: 23-26 September?
Location: Bengaluru, Hyderabad?
The SIAA India Industry?Study?Tour?will engage with Indian space companies and key government representatives across the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and INSPACE. The?study?tour?will be held the week after the Bengaluru Space Expo 2024 (18-20 September), allowing members the opportunity to attend BSX 2024 and then join the Industry?Study?Tour?to further industry connections. The Indian space sector offers a wealth of opportunities for the Australian space sector as both a key partner for Australian space industry as well as a customer of Australian space capability across the supply chain. The 2023 Indian Space Policy in combination with changes to India’s Foreign Direct Investment policy unlocks new opportunities for the international space sector, bolstered by India’s ambitions as a key space-faring nation.?

The SIAA Italy Industry?Study?tour?will be held the week after IAC 2024 Milan (14-18 October) and offers SIAA members and members of the space sector the opportunity to engage with the Italian Space?Agency, the Italian Trade Agency, Italian space primes and startups, and relevant government departments to explore collaboration opportunities. This?study?tour?will build on previous space industry initiatives to explore potential collaboration opportunities between the Italian and Australian space ecosystems, including an industry webinar jointly hosted by the Space Industry Association of Australia, the Australian Space Agency, Investment NSW in partnership with the Italian Trade Agency and Italian Space Agency.
