SOUTH AFRICA'S DEFINING MOMENT - time to re-define leadership for SA future leaders

RE - DEFINING LEADERSHIP FOR SA AND AFRICA FUTURE LEADERS

What a great time it is for one to be a citizen of South Africa...yes I am not mistaken. What a great time to live in South Africa where all its citizens are startled as they digest and cast their opinions on the so called Constitutional Courts judgement on the "Nkandla saga". I listen to South Africans from all walks of life casting thir mixed feelings around this issue.

It seems that a handful of people are really disapointed to realize that president Zuma is not going nowhere as they expected him that He will do the honorable thing and resign. Others that seemingly belong to the ANC welcome president Zumas apology and affirming their support behind him and his leadership.

I listened to presidents Zumas much delayed and carefully written apology to the people of South Africa on behalf of himself and his government. I remembered a conversation I had with my wife immediately after the passing of judgement by the honorable Judge Mogweng mogweng.

I said to my wife; if the ANC wants to regain loyalty and trust of the masses that were once behind the ANC of Nelson Mandela, Oliver Tambo, Walter Sisulu, Chief Albert Luthuli etc. And if President Zuma wants to rescuscitate the little if not zero respect and integrity for himself and the ANC the following should be done:

1). ANC MUST DISTANCE ITSELF AS AN INSTITUTION TO IMMORAL DEGRADING CONDUCT AND LACK OF CHARACTER AND INTEGRITY OF ITS LEADER PRESIDENT ZUMA

- It is clear that ANC and president Zuma do not have common principles and values. Therefore distancing the institution and its noble value system that is founded upon the great minds of the ANC starlwarts that paid for the much enjoyed democracy of SA by their precious blood that still cries out from the land of this country and Africa will put ANC in a position where it affirms and confirms its values.

2). PRESIDENT ZUMA MUST ADMIT HIS MISTAKES, HIS ERRORS AND SHOW REMORSE FOR HIS IMMORAL AND DEGRADING CHARACTER

- I said to my wife; it is clear that President Zuma has lost all credibility as a leader and SA has lost its trust in him as our chief servant. You see; what makes one a leader isnt the position they occupy but the trust that they are given by those that have entrusted such a person into a leadership position.

- It is clear that President Zuma has violated the trust that he was given by the majority of citizens of South Africa that believe in truth and its ability to grant freedom to one and to the nation at large.

- Unfortunately as a leader if you violate peoples trust then you nolonger hold any influence over the very people that had entrusted you with their confidence that you will serve them with utmost truth, sincerity and utmost integrity.

3). AFTER ADMITTING HIS INEQUITY, HE MUST ANNOUNCE HIS RESIGNATION AS A PRESIDENT AND ASK THE NEXT PRESIDENT TO SUCCEED HIM TO LEARN FROM HIS MISTAKES AND BE TRUE TO HIS/HER OBLIGATION AS A PUBLIC SERVANT

- I told my wife that stepping down and crucifying yourself before all the people of South Africa and the world will afford the president an opportunity to be admired by those that He perhaps lured into corruption to know that they too must follow suite and repent.

- This would win over the hearts of those loyal ANC supporters that are on the brink of giving up their longterm memberships of the new ANC that stands for corruption, money laundering, poor service delivery, the ANC that doesn't care about SA citizens and its needs but their own stomach and their families.

- Not only will this win the hearts of the long term loyal ANC members that are on the brink of giving up their membership cards but it would also win the hearts of the anti-ANC s that have much hatred for the ANC because of the poor decisions they have continuously taken inspite of the disatisfaction that has been expressed by the people of SA that have put the very ANC in power.

4.) ANC INTRODUCES A NEW PRESIDENT AND AFFIRM ITS VALUE SYSTEM TO THE  PEOPLE OF SA AND ADMIT THAT PRESIDENT ZUMAS LEADERSHIP LOST ITS FOCUS AND DEVIATED FROM ITS PRINCIPLES AND VALUES

- This would mean a renewed hope, a renewed vision and a sense of great focus and a sense of repentance and loyalty by the ANC leaders and its government.

- Even though ANC may think that this would tarnish them and get them to self destruct as Gwede Mantashe says....I truly disagree with his persperctive. Infact I think the above approach would really give them a great advantage going into the local government elections with such a renewed hope. They wouldn't even have to have manifestos etc to use to lie again to us. Their position with regards to the above issue would be an adequate manifesto to most ANC  supporters and its ali.

MY TAKE ON THE APPROACH THAT ANC HAS TAKEN....

- The current ANC s position has done nothing to inspire South Africans that ANC still has any credibility to lead us going foward

- It affirms and confirms that ANC will continue to be corrupt and covetious and it will continue to be loyal to those that seek for enrich themselves at the expense of the many SA that are embeded in poverty

- The current ANC stance is in a way setting a precedence for the next leaders that will succeed president Zuma that its ok to be corrupt, disloyal, immoral, manipulative, subjugating others into standing with you to cover up for you in order to win your loyalty so that they can remain in their offices and ignore the plight of the poor

- It sends a clear message that ANC will do all that it could to protect president Zuma because behind his lies the very people that you and I think are loyal and honest servants of the people of South Africa.

I appeal to all the government and the ANC leaders that still have some conscience that is still left within them. Think of the next generation of leaders...Is the kind of a leader you are the kind that you would aspire your daughters or sons to be. Would you like your grand children to be as corrupt of a leader as you are? Is this how you would want to be remembered? Is this the legacy you want to be remembered by? You will soon be dead trust me.....you will leave that political office and someone else will occupy it. You will not be there forever...you found that office from someone else and you will leave it at some point for someone else.

I would like to take this opportunity to salute the public protector Thuli Madonsela. Your leadership mama is highly admirable. Us as the next generation are learning so much from people like you. You really inspire hope in the hearts of the younger generation of South Africans that indeed there is still hope for South Africa. Thank you for reading.

About me:

I am not a polititian.

I am not a member of the ANC or any of the political parties.

I am a student of SERVANTHOOD Leadership, the true leadership philosophy of the 21st century that will live beyond all other leadership phylosophies.

I have learnt a lot and still learning much from the great leader that everlived, a leader that inspired great leaders like Mandela, Ghandi, Kenedy, Martin Luther King jnr, Malcolm X, Sir Linden Pindley etc. Offcourse that leader is Jesus Christ of Nazareth - the son of a carpenter.

email me your thoughts and comments: [email protected]

Flippant, I admit: governments should be set up so that a company's leaders should go immediately TO prison after their first stint - not BEFORE.

Wanda Mhobo, thank you for this informative piece. It helped me learn more about South Africans and their hope for ANC leaders, who will best exemplify what it means to be a leader. I pray for not only South Africa but also leaders all around the world who will not break the public trust. The talk I hear in local coffee shops concerns me. A man says to his friend, "All politicians are liars and cheats. I don't trust any of them." It has been my blessing to be involved with politicians who are the opposite of this statement. They went into politics because they believe they could do some good. Sadly, there are politicians who lose that shiny idealism as they see their principles eroded, as it becomes harder to do the right thing. This quote from the Chinese philosopher Lao Tzu is part of my leadership philosophy. "A leader is best when people barely know he exists, when his work is done, his aim fulfilled, they will say: we did it ourselves." Of course, leaders are faced with those tough decisions which distinguish them from followers. Yet, I do believe great leaders develop other leaders. They mentor those in whom they see potential. Thank you for taking time to share your thoughts with us.

This is a great article by Wanda Mhobo. SA is at a crossroad. This is its defining moment. Do we condone this flagrant disregard of the rule of Law and Constitution and continue with our lives as usual, or do we voice our dissatisfaction in the current leadership?
