South Africans look forward to 44% to 200% electricity price increases in 2025

Dear Colleague
In 2024, when Eskom applied for their next 3 year tariff increase season, NERSA promised a “determination” of Eskom's multi year tariff demands by the end of January 2025.?
Here are the details of the meeting:
Note that the purpose of the meeting is "approval"!! Not discussion. Not debate. Not protect the consumer. Rather: approval!!
I guess we will discover if the National Energy (including Electricity) Rubber Stamping Authority will allow Eskom’s 200% Service Fee and 44% usage (kWh) increase.
If this happens, the 6GW of private generation installed in 2022/2023, will seem tiny, in comparison, with the 2025 private generation build out. I expect the Automatic Privatization of energy of all types in South Africa.
South Africans are incredibly resourceful.
We don’t fight (with our government). We do.?
Regards
David
PS: I've been saying since 2020 that South Africa is the safest place in the world to live! Why, with all the crime? Because in South Africa one must learn to defend oneself from one's neighbour. Defending oneself against one's government is almost impossible, as they have AR15's, M60's, tanks, and lawfare.

1 个月Here are the actual numbers from NERSA's meeting on 30th January 2025: 25/26 NERSA Allowed Revenue R384 bn 12.7% increase; Eskom applied for R445 bn 26/27: R409 bn 5.36% increase; Eskom applied for R495 bn 27/28: R435 bn 6.19% increase; Eskom applied for R536 bn So is Eskom going to make the following losses? 25/26: R61 billion? 26/27: R86 billion? 27/28: R101 billion? Plus add the 23/24 loss of R55 billion. And let's say the 24/25 loss will be R58 billion. Total losses for Eskom from 2023 until 2028 are: R361 billion. That is the current turnover! Financially I would say that there is no point in running Eskom. OTOH, I have written turnaround plans for Eskom in the form of questions and other suggestion, but they have been ignored. The attached picture is from a meeting I had at Eskom HQ with a very senior manager on 30th July 2019. Eskom have been unable to answer these questions. And I personally know the 5 people who could turn around Eskom working as a CEO Team, rather than having a single CEO overseeing the Conglomerate.

1 个月Love this. SA will be in darkness again! Nobody will be paying for power! Eskom will cry foul, but remain permanently bankrupt!!!
