Our first night at Southern Sun Katherine Street was comfortable enough with a massive breakfast waiting for us. Nathan had concerns about the smoker’s room they put him in and they were gracious enough to switch him over. Our shuttle navigated the insane and quite frankly, rude, Johannesburg traffic, but we got there in one piece. We headed into the Sandton Convention Centre and made our way down to where the first day of the South African Future Trust Summit would take place.?
The space was huge, with exhibition stands already set up, a stage on either end and a separate section outside for refreshments. The Standard Bank Group Advisory Zone immediately stood out with its immaculately designed blue and white colour scheme. We made our way to the highest tier to get a bird’s eye view of the event. We settled in, set up the camera and banners, ready to start.
We finally got to meet Zahira Muslim in person, after which we were asked to take down the Big Beard Web Solutions banners. This makes sense, as we were there to represent Standard Bank after all. We said hi to our neighbours and the lovely ladies who would be sending attendees our way. I was finally able to introduce Nathan to Nokhanyo Ntshingila and Advocate Anthony Malunga , who I met a few short months ago through the Standard Bank Western Cape Accelerator 2024.
Advisory sessions were slow to pick up as people seemed hesitant to join us.
Afterwards we would find that there was a problem with the app’s booking system and not enough hype was generated around why the Standard Bank Advisory Zone was there. That being said, we had a fruitful day of helping business owners find solutions to their problems. We have touched base with most of them since arriving back in Cape Town and it looks like work will be generated from a few. We were already excited for day 2 and I was already thinking about ways we could increase foot traffic to our stand.
