#SourcerOnBoard: Justin Ong
By Siying featuring Justin Ong
Regardless of where you are in your career, starting a new job can be both exciting and daunting at the same time and maybe even more in this unprecedented period. Hence we are always looking at improving and adapting our physical and now, remote on-boarding process. One of our recent hires, Justin has joined us one month ago and has on-boarded with us remotely. Here's what Justin has to share about his experience!
1) Introduction
"If you’re offered a seat on a rocket ship, don’t ask what seat! Just get on." -Sheryl Sandberg
It has been about a month since I hopped on this ride and I'm not looking back!
Sales is often misrepresented negatively by social stigmas on certain qualities that a salesperson might have; selfish, goal-driven, ambitious. In turn, these same qualities when viewed positively are the exact same qualities that brings success, which I will elaborate further in the next paragraph.
Bringing in my little paragraph from LinkedIn, "One could say that amidst the bustle of the 21st century, people have to be selfish for what they are passionate about or they will lose out. They are not wrong but instead, look at it from a different approach. By leveraging on your team's strengths & weaknesses, delegating work accordingly, you will find that you can be selfish and help each other grow in the process.
2) What’s your role in ServiceSource?
I am currently a Sales Representative managing respective account renewals in the Australia & New Zealand regions.
3) Why did you decide to join this company?
Prior to ServiceSource, I was concurrently studying and working full-time at Curtin Singapore & Absolute Cycle. I remember having a chat with Siying (Senior Recruiter), earlier in the year; sometime in February but was tied down with commitments and not being able to come on full-time then.
It was during the circuit breaker due to the pandemic that I received another call from Siying saying that a role opened up and asked if I was still keen. Needless to say, “A Seat on a Rocket Ship”, I am still thankful for the opportunity that came around this period and for a step into the Tech industry!
4) How would you describe the on-boarding process / experience at ServiceSource?
Personally, the amount of work put through by the on-boarding team at ServiceSource is tremendous and respectable. Up till the point that I was hired, everything was done over the phone with no video calls - which to me shows a lot of what ServiceSource embodies and care about during their hiring process.
I was extremely fortunate to be on-boarded one-on-one with Angela as I managed to spend more time being guided though the company's sales methodology - HPS 3.0 as well as the logo's work-flow where I was mentored by Sandra (Manager) and Grace!
I love the open and transparent culture that ServiceSource provides; creating a safe space for everyone to excel in their job and help one another.
5) What are you passionate about?
As some of you might have already know, I am really into Fitness – waking up at 5am for my 6am workouts daily. On the other hand, you might not have known that I really love food just as much; specifically, that of the Singapore Hawker scene. As the quote goes "Live to Eat and not Eat to Live".
The thought of Singapore's heritage potentially dying out one day is really disheartening to me and I would like to be eventually be part of a community that retains the heritage for future generations. For the record, my favourite dish is Mee Pok (Dry Minced Meat Noodles)!
6) Share a fun fact about yourself!
Sharing more about Fitness and Food, I used to weigh 98.7kg a year ago and I am now 71kg; losing roughly 27kg from July 2019-20 mainly doing HIIT at F45 Paya Lebar!
PS: All this while I was still having my craft beers daily! You CAN lose weight and still drink. Haha! Do feel free to ping me if you want some tips about weight loss / chat about food / fitness / craft beer!
