The Source of Our Suffering and Limitations

The Source of Our Suffering and Limitations

Your mind: Your most complex and mysterious possession and yet, one of the least comprehended things in the universe.

For millennia, sages from ancient civilizations all around the world have been telling us to pay attention to our minds. From Hindu sages to Zen masters, from Greek philosophers to Roman emperors, from Native Americans to today’s neuroscientists. They all point to the mind as the source of both our happiness and our suffering.

After fifteen years of study and direct experience with personal mastery, I am convinced that all of our limitations, as well as our suffering, are created in and maintained by our minds. Suffering can take many forms, such as fear, frustration, anger, sadness, shame, stress, or any other life-depleting emotion.

"I would describe my mind as this fireworks of thoughts. It was just one big chaos. I needed to find peace and happiness, to know who I was and wanted to be. With Juan, I learned that we are not just our minds, or our thoughts. We are empty pages, where we can start writing our own life stories. This has brought me this love, this happiness, and this passion into my life that I wouldn't want to miss for the world." L.B.

All this self-limiting and suffering happens because of two fundamental lies we tell ourselves every day.

The two lies we tell ourselves

The first fundamental lie we tell ourselves is that time, as we know it, exists.?

In his book ‘The Order of Time’, quantum physicist Carlo Rovelli explains, “We conventionally think of time as something simple and fundamental that flows uniformly [...] from the past to the future. (That) the past is fixed, and the future is open… And yet all of this has turned out to be false.”

The past is a memory and the future is a dream. It is all in our minds, here and now, always. The present—if well lived—makes yesterday a happy memory, and tomorrow a vision to look forward to.

It is through your actions in the present that you either build the platform in which you will stand tomorrow, higher and stronger, or you will dig the hole you will complain about tomorrow.?

The other lie we tell ourselves is that our Perception (interpretation) IS reality.

We are convinced that things can be put into boxes. We think in terms of right and wrong, good and bad, tall and small. We think in dualistic terms, we judge and discriminate. In other words, we put labels on things that simply… are.

But only neutral facts exist, but we keep interpreting those facts, we give them meaning. Each fact can have as many meanings as you can come up with. Multiply those meanings by the number of people in the world and you will see how many lies are being told every day. We live in a mental world of lies!

The good news is that you can change almost any perception you have and it only takes a moment if you know about Personal Mastery.

Is your mind working for you or against you?

What are your mental strengths? What are your opportunities? And what about your weaknesses? How much is your use of mental time and interpretation affecting your life?
