The Soundtrack of My Life
A Story Unfolding Across Timelines
Current Time.
Learning about people through their culture is truly fascinating. When I'm curious about a new culture, country, or nation, I usually start by listening to their music. Music reflects a nation's culture, showing its dreams, values, and aspirations. It conveys a culture's unique identity and shares its essence with the world.
When people ask me about Israel and what it's like, I often start by talking about music. Israel is a melting pot of Jewish communities from around the world, and this diversity is beautifully reflected in our vibrant music culture and talented musicians.
Music has an amazing ability to heal our souls. It acts as a universal language, allowing us to connect with the melody and feel the story through the sounds, even if we don't understand the lyrics. Just feeling the music can transport us into a magical world. It can bring together people, nations, and cultures, playing a crucial role in fostering world peace.
FortiSakharof’s music has been present in my life since I was a teenager. Going to their concerts with friends back home reminds me of how exciting it is to live through music. Seeing them together or separately in live shows when I was a student at university festivals or at The Elephant, the City Hall, and The Beat, Haifa’s top music venues, are some of my greatest memories from my 20s and 30s. These were the best nights I could have ever asked for. The expectation of waiting for the day of the show, the excitement sensation when arriving at the venue, and the energy during the show, there is no feeling that compares to that. Music is what makes life worth living.
FortiSakharof’s albums together and their solo albums have been defined as legendary and legacy albums not only by music critics but also by the audience. For me, their albums are part of my life. I’ve listened to their albums on repeat so many times for many years. Each of their songs tells a story of a lifetime, gets me into a different mood, or sparks a vibe within my soul.
“There is No End to Childhood” touches on the sudden awareness that we are growing up and the longing for our childhood. This realization catches us at different moments in life and resonates differently with people. “America” has been part of my life journey before I ever thought to relocate here. Now that I'm in my 40s, I appreciate even more the genius of the lyrics that were written somewhere in the 80s.
“Sparks” is the inner dialogue we all have with ourselves. It also reflects the dialogue when we are in a relationship with a partner when we hesitate between opening the door for love or keeping it closed. The sensation I have in my body every time I listen to the quiet version of “Blue Dream” is exceptional. Making love while listening to this song in the background is the ultimate vibration that lifts me high to the sky. If you are curious to know what it feels like, listen to Blue Dream next time you make love to your partner.
Blue Dream
I see you lying between the white sheets??
And climb on the way to you, to you??
I love you moaning and your hands slipping??
The pleasure you draw from me to you??
I'm silent, and you're laughing, yes there are drops??
Of madness between us??
A blue dream, and you're dripping??
You're like fire, like a flame, burning??
I love you always anew.??
Like on a honeymoon when you hold me??
Tight like a snake, losing control, trembling, and excited??
The feeling you give and your body that asks??
So take me up, to you, to you??
The fire in you burns, a dream that excites??
The pleasure you draw from me to you??
I'm silent, and you're laughing, yes there are drops??
Of madness between us??
A blue dream, and you're dripping??
You're like fire, like a flame, burning??
I love you always anew.??
Like on a honeymoon when you hold me??
Tight like a snake, losing control, trembling, and excited??
I can't remember how many live shows of FortiSakharof I attended, both together and separately, but it was definitely more than a couple dozen. Writing about Berry Sakharof and Rami Fortis from my apartment in San Francisco makes me long to see their shows, especially the intimate shows in small venues. Where the lights of the stage are dimmed, and I can feel the beat of songs inside my body. I love this vibe. I love Berry Sakharof. I love Rami Fortis. They are my ultimate couple. I love seeing them together and separately. I love rock and roll. I love music. I love the feeling music has over me. I love the way people connect through music.?
If my words have made you curious about Berry Sakharof and Rami Fortis, try listening to their music. It’s free, as it’s part of your Spotify, iTunes, or YouTube membership anyway, so what do you have to lose? You might end up liking them.
