Soul/Spirit is an outdated concept

If you torture data long enough, it will confess to anything ~ Ronald H. Coase
The concept of soul and/or spirit was conceived several millennia ago; they were conceived at a time people had no idea matter is made up of atoms and their respective subatomic constituents. They were conceived to explain ideas such as thoughts, emotions/feelings, and consciousness.
Today, we can explain thoughts by invoking the firing of neurons, explain emotions/feelings by invoking neurotransmitters and hormones, and explain consciousness (almost) by invoking ideas like integrated information theory. That means we no longer need souls/spirits to explain those phenomena.
Several thousands years after the ideas of souls and spirits were conceived, man has been able to probe nature and he has found out the basic building blocks of life, matter, space, time, and energy, but still cannot lay hands on a soul or a spirit.
As humans progress in knowledge, some willingly decide to remain in the philosophies of ancient ignorant thinkers who thought of silly ideas like the entire universe is made up of water (Mesopotamians/Egyptians see Genesis 1:1, 2), or Air, or Fire, or Earth, then later said that the basic elements of the universe are Fire, Air, Water, and Earth (see Aristotelian Physics).
We are in a century where we now know of over 200 subatomic particles, and we know how three of those join together to make up the matter we see around us, and how that matter join up to make life, and how that life has evolved to turn into humans, and how the totality of that matter is spread out in the entire universe (with a few loose ends we are still tying up).
Thus, it is time you discarded some silly ideas like souls/spirits that were conceived when humans were extremely ignorant - just as you abandoned the idea that totality of nature is made up of earth, fire, water, and air as basic elements.
