Soul Training: Running at the Mental Health Obstacle
UNINTERRUPTED's new show: Soul Training, with Ricky Williams and co-host Dr. Armando Gonzalez

Soul Training: Running at the Mental Health Obstacle

Soul training. It’s the perfect name for our latest show on UNINTERRUPTED.?

The other day, I was sitting with show host Ricky Williams. You probably know his story. He opted out of NFL life to pursue his own state of peace. He took power over severe anxiety by putting in the work through therapy and life changes. Ricky is an incredible person to spend time with. You can feel his peace.

But one thing he made clear: the athlete mindset on any obstacle is different than perhaps the average person. Athletes run toward the obstacle. And that’s the essence of Soul Training as a show: you can train your mind to overcome. We don’t need to feel like victims to our mental health struggles. Rather, we see it as part of who we are, what makes us great and how we continue to grow and enhance our human experience.?

The personal struggles and lows I have experienced on my own journey have made me a more empathetic person. They’ve grown my heart to see the good in others and allowed me the ability to create positive change. I am not the same person I was 10 years ago, five years ago or even three months ago. It’s a constant evolution and it’s taken training, soul training.

This concept doesn’t exist without Ricky Williams sharing his soul and inviting others in. This concept doesn’t exist without Dr. Armando Gonzalez bringing his research-backed wisdom, methodologies and enormous heart into the show. And this show certainly doesn’t exist without athletes willing to be vulnerable and open for the purpose of helping others heal and feel inspired. Thank you to Lindsey Vonn, Lauren Sesselmann, Ryan Mundy and Katelyn Ohashi.

Soul Training sits at the heart of mental health and sports. This is a space I’ve long awaited for UNINTERRUPTED to really take space in and this show is our first massive effort to do so.

Season 1 kicks off with episode one on Wednesday May 10 on UNINTERRUPTED’s channels.?

This show is going to bring such a positive impact on anyone who watches. I couldn’t be more proud of what the team has accomplished and more thankful to the athletes who joined us.

This is so powerful, Jimmy! Growing up in Miami, Ricky Williams was one of my favorite football players but he was constantly shut down due to stigma and racism in the media at the time. I'm glad he has the platform & opportunity to share his story authentically and continue pushing for awareness & advocacy!

I happy to see someone of this caliber doing right by Ricky with content. I've watched some of the things that he's been a part of and I know UNINTERRUPTED will help tell the story right.
