[Soul Sunday] WELCOME HOME??

[Soul Sunday] WELCOME HOME??

“Happy Soul Sunday" ?

“For I was hungry, and you fed me. I was thirsty, and you gave me a drink. I was a stranger, and you invited me into your home. I was naked, and you gave me clothing. I was sick, and you cared for me. I was in prison, and you visited me.” (Matt 25:35-36)

?

The words ‘welcome home’ have so many warm and welcoming meanings. Meanings of comfort, safety, hospitality, friendship, and family, almost like a warm blanket with hello. It is a promise of the hospitality prepared and expected. Hospitality is when someone feels at home in your presence. Hospitality isn’t about your house. It’s all about your heart.?

In 2022, often I find those inside our Dare2Dream community more focused on these activities for others, all while ignoring themselves.?What are you doing in the new year to welcome yourself, to give yourself comfort, hospitality and friendship?

?As you read this today with new insight focused on you.

Our God is a welcoming God. He welcomes any and everyone who believes in Jesus into his family. While He lived on earth, Jesus always welcomed everyone into his presence or to wherever He was preaching or teaching at the time. With Jesus as our example, we should never be shy about welcoming others, whether it’s welcoming friends into our home, visitors into our church or just saying hello to a stranger. ( I recognize this may be more challenging considering where we are right now… but this can also be done virtually) As Christians, we should display the welcoming attitude of God. We are all one in Christ Jesus. Jesus died for us so that we could be welcomed sinless and reborn into the presence of God. Do we exclude or ignore others for our petty reasons when Jesus sacrificed himself for me, for you, for us to be welcome?

?When the funeral of Rev. Billy Graham was broadcast on television. His daughter, Ruth Graham, shared a story of feeling shunned due to a divorce. Soon after meeting a man, they fell in love very quickly, and despite the fact that no one in her family had met this man, they married, and she shared almost instantly she knew it was a mistake.?Five weeks later, she fled to her parents, and was so fearful of how her dad, Rev. Graham would react, but she had nowhere else to go. After she pulled up the long driveway, much to her surprise, her dad had no words of judgment reserved for her, he simply said Welcome Home…

What an amazing feeling! That despite how disappointed he may have been, fearful even, perhaps even concerned about what others would think, none of that mattered. He simply welcomed his daughter with loving, nonjudgmental arms. This is exactly how Jesus welcomes us. No matter what we have done, no matter the sin, the error of our ways, the failures, no matter how far we have fallen short of His glory, there He is to welcome us right back each time. The next time you, your son, or daughter, significant other, husband or wife, family or friend does the unexpected, causes pain, think of this, and welcome them home with loving arms. But first do it for yourself.

Let Us Pray…

I am so grateful that your promises are new every morning. I am grateful we can lean, and depend on you, for you alone are worthy of all our praise. I leap for joy because I am home with myself. AMEN!

Meditation/Journal:?I am home with myself.
