[Soul Sunday] Choose Who You’ll Serve

[Soul Sunday] Choose Who You’ll Serve

Hey?Dreamer?Happy Soul Sunday!!

“Now, therefore, fear the?Lord?and serve him in sincerity and in faithfulness.?Put away the gods that your fathers served beyond the River and in Egypt, and serve the?Lord.?15?And if it is evil in your eyes to serve the?Lord,?choose this day whom you will serve, whether?the gods your fathers served in the region beyond the River, or?the gods of the Amorites in whose land you dwell.?But as for me and my house, we will serve the?Lord." Joshua 24:14-15

Today, I am posing this question to you, but really it is a reminder and continued questions for myself. Whom will you serve? On my feature wall behind me in my office is a sign that reads, “Faith Over Fear”.

It’s a reminder to me and to anyone who meets with me virtually, of this fact. Actively choosing my faith over fear is an outward decision stemming from who I choose to serve. For me, choosing faith is an active choice, that God is and will always be my guide.

As human beings, we are faced with choices every day. Some of these choices may be small and insignificant, while others may have a significant impact on our lives and the lives of others. One of the most important choices we can make is who to serve: God or fear.

Scripture tells us that we cannot serve both God and fear. In Joshua 24:15, Joshua says, "Choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve... But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord." This verse reminds us that we must choose between serving God and serving fear. If we choose to serve fear, we will be consumed by worry, anxiety, and doubt. But if we choose to serve God, we will find peace, hope, and strength.

First, remember when you choose to serve your fear, you are actually saying no to an all-powerful and all-knowing God. Who has all, and is ALL.?This is bigger than we have not because we ask not. But actually you are saying I really don’t believe that God can do what he said he can do. This is a faith question.?

More importantly, when we cast away our fears and say yes, we affirm God as all and all.?Here is a real life example. This past week I spoke to three women who are in?work-related trauma. They are?undervalued, overworked, consistently disrespected and "othered." Each one has been moved to tears and knows in fact that they must get out of the situation.?Yet they allow their inner fears to prevent them from taking the necessary actions to choose faith over fear. Faith that it can and will be better. They all said no to the possibility of what would happen if they chose to actively believe that God is bigger than their fears.?

NO to a new way.

NO to receiving help.

NO, to invest in the solution.?

And YES to fear.?

(My Lord)

We serve God and not our fears, because God is the source of our strength, hope, and purpose. When we choose to serve God, we can overcome our fears and find the courage to pursue our dreams and live a fulfilling life.

In our personal and professional lives, we can also choose to serve God instead of fear. We can trust in His plan for our lives, have faith in our abilities, and take bold steps towards our goals. By doing so, we can overcome our fears and make a positive impact on the world.

Meditation:?Lord My Faith is Stronger than my fear. (repeat that a few times)

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, we come before you today and ask for your guidance and wisdom as we make choices in our lives. Help us to choose to serve you, to trust in your plan for our lives, and to let go of fear and worry. Give us the strength and courage to follow your path, and to be a light to others. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Three take-away questions:

  1. What does it mean to serve God?
  2. What are some ways fear can manifest in your life?
  3. How can you choose to serve God instead of fear in your personal and professional life?

Final Thought:

Choosing who to serve - God or fear - is a fundamental choice that can have a significant impact on our personal and professional lives. By choosing to serve God, we can find peace, hope, and strength to overcome the challenges we face. Let us choose to serve God and trust in His plan for our lives..
