Soul of a City - DC's Go-Go Music

First time I heard Go-Go was at an after hours bar on New York Avenue in about 1985. The music is a true fusion of everything from Afro-Caribbean, Disco, and Funk. The crowd was going delirious to the sound of the genre's "grandfather, Chuck Brown. The music in part traced its roots back to the towns "Cabaret culture" of the 60's, and not unlike the music of James Brown a generation earlier was initially embraced by the less economically gifted black culture of the city. This isn't your Mamma's Motown. This is music to dance all night to and be happy.
