I wrote a Linkedin post recently about how Recruiters can read between the lines of BS, and that totally ticked off people and I get it. The concept that Recruiters know everything and you can't lie to them, sounds like a Scary as shit Santa Clause vibe. So to clarify, Recruiters do not know everything, BUT we do hear and tend to gather a lot of data, so how I word things can be done a bit better and a big thanks goes to that someone special for calling me out the other day.

Essentially, Recruiters do know a lot and can tell when BS is being said, yet we are still the good guys and will do whatever we can to get the right candidates in front of the hiring manager.

Recruiters look beyond the gaps to find the skills and right personality fits that are needed to get the job filled for our clients. So be real with us and let us know what is going on and let us recruiters try to help.

When hundreds of applications are coming in hot, it is easy to miss the mark on a strong candidate for many, especially when a gap of a few years or unstable work history gets in the way of what people perceive that to mean.

Recruiters, since we deal with hundreds of open roles, we get how some roles are quite hard to fill and are more open to talking to candidates for the now and future roles. Even with a background that may seem to be a typical red flag, they will call them and figure them out. Many times, Recruiters know there is always a story to a perfect resume that has gaps in it. They know the resume could be of a wonderful candidate's that happened to take off for:

  1. Parenthood
  2. Taking care of an elderly loved one
  3. Health Issues/ Wellness Journeys
  4. Startup/Entrepreneurial moment
  5. and the list goes on.

Yet...when a hiring manager looks at a resume, they may just see a gap.

So this is where the Recruiter comes in to save the day.

A Recruiter looks beyond, highlights the skills and has the ability to do whatever they can to get them presented almost on a pedestal so they look as best as possible versus just a typical application among hundreds.

A staffing agency recruiter is sometimes able to help even more since they get contract and temp roles and have hiring managers a bit more flexible on who is hired and and it allows you to jump back into a job faster potentially.

So, for all you job jumping, career gapped humans that have what we all experience, called A LIFE...start working with more recruiters directly...especially staffing and agency recruiters...they can truly help.

If they do not reply to you after you apply, just simply message them on Linkedin, everyone is a lot more open to talking than you think.

And if a Recruiter likes the conversation and feels a positive vibe that you have the right experience and skills, they really will try to help you.
