Sonic tackles Instagram fair and square
Sonic Corp., which has 3,500 drive-ins nationwide, this week will offer attendees at the Coachella festival the chance to order special #SquareShakes through the popular Instagram app.
The photo-based Instagram app, which had 400 million active users as of September 2015, is testing "Shop Now" geo-located ads, and Coachella-goers -- generally a youthful crowd -- will be able to order specially packaged square Creamery shakes through their smartphones.
Sonic has just 65 restaurants in California, but the test is likely to be watched closely among restaurant brands seeking ways to drive traffic through the popular Instagram app.
