A Song of Solitude

Its a strange kind of lonely that dwells in my heart,
One that is never alone.
For even though I may smile right from the start,
My happiness is all on loan.
It's true I have friends and some are quite loyal
(That should come as no big surprise),
Yet my heart is planted in unwelcoming soil,
The seeds of love have no chance to arise.
No one cares to converse on intimate things,
So I keep everything deep inside.
No one hears those songs my heart yearns to sing
Or the secrets I wish to confide.
The loneliness I feel appears very strange indeed,
Even though someone is always near.
For no one is close enough to share hopes and needs,
None I can trust to see my tears.
It's loneliness sown from a growing lack of trust,
So I pray you now understand;
All my past loves gave gifts from greed and lust
And left me a hollow man.
So if you wonder what kind of things my heart desires?
How to dis-spell my feelings so blue?
Act with honest passion, speak words to ignite fires
For what you give me, I will give to you
