We read in Numbers chapter 11 that the people were grumbling about the manna they had to eat and craved for meat and fish.
The people had been eating manna and began to crave for other food saying “If only we had meat to eat” (Numbers 11:4). “We remember the fish we ate in Egypt, also the cucumbers, melons, leeks, onions and garlic” (Numbers 11:5). “But now we have lost our appetite; we never see anything but this manna” (Numbers 11:6). The Lord told Moses “Tell the people ‘Now you will have meat, and you will eat it’” (Numbers 11:18). “You will not eat it just for one day, or two days, or five, ten or twenty days” (Numbers 11:19), “but for a whole month until you loathe it, because you have rejected the Lord” (Numbers 11:20). But Moses said “Here I am among six hundred thousand men, and you say ‘I will give them meat to eat for a whole month’” (Numbers 11:21). Now a wind went out from the Lord and drove quail in from the sea. It brought them down all around the camp to almost one metre above the ground, as far as a day’s walk in any direction (Numbers 11:31). All that day and night and all the next day the people went out and gathered quail (Numbers 11:32). But while the meat was still between their teeth and before it could be consumed, the anger of the Lord burned against the people, and He struck them with a severe plague (Numbers 11:33).
Thought for today: thank God for what you have, trust God for what you need.
Thought for the future: trust in God today and prepare for your tomorrow. Where will you spend your eternity?
