The Book of Proverbs in the Old Testament section of the Holy Bible is a collection of moral and religious teachings, mostly in the form of short sayings. Many of the Proverbs deal with every day matters including common sense and good manners, and most are still relevant to us today. The song “Do What’s Right” comes from Proverbs 21.
All a man’s ways seem right to him, but the Lord weighs the heart (Proverbs 21:2). To do what is right and just is more acceptable to the Lord than sacrifice (Proverbs 21:3). Haughty eyes and a proud heart, the lamp of the wicked, are sin (Proverbs 21:4). The plans of the diligent lead to profit as surely as haste leads to poverty (Proverbs 21:5). A fortune made by a lying tongue is a fleeting vapour and a deadly snare (Proverbs 21:6). The violence of the wicked will drag them away, for they refuse to do what is right (Proverbs 21:7). The way of the guilty is devious, but the conduct of the innocent is upright (Proverbs 21:8). The wicked man craves evil; his neighbor gets no mercy from him (Proverbs 21:10). When a mocker is punished, the simple gain wisdom; when a wise man is instructed, he gets knowledge (Proverbs 21:11). The Righteous One takes note of the house of the wicked and brings the wicked to ruin (Proverbs 21:12). When justice is done, it brings joy to the righteous but terror to evildoers (Proverbs 21:15).
Thought for today: leave the shadows of yesterday and seek the hope for tomorrow.
