Little is known about the prophet Joel, who probably lived in the fourth of fifth century BC. This song is adapted from the Book of Joel, chapter 2.
?“Even now” declares the Lord, “return to me with all your heart, with fasting and weeping and mourning” (Joel 2:12). Rend your heart and not your garments. Return to the Lord your God, for He is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and abounding in love, and He relents from sending calamity (Joel 2:13). Gather the people, consecrate the assembly, bring together the elders and gather the children (Joel 2:16). Let the priests say “Spare your people, oh Lord. Do not make your inheritance an object of scorn, a byword among the nations. Why should they say among the peoples ‘Where is their God?’” (Joel 2:17). Be not afraid oh land; be glad and rejoice. Surely the Lord has done great things (Joel 2:21). Be glad, oh people of Zion, rejoice in the Lord your God (Joel 2:23). You will have plenty to eat, until you are full, and you will praise the name of the Lord your God, who has worked wonders for you; never again will the people be shamed (Joel 2:26). Then you will know that I am in Israel, that I am the Lord your God, and that there is no other (Joel 2:27).
Thought for today: the Gospel is priceless, it is free to everyone. Thought for the future: when you know the truth, you will know what is false. Where will you spend your eternity?
