SOMO club & lounge : an exceptional night with exceptional people for Startupfest

On July 13, after an eventful day at Startupfest (having to evacuate the tent village because of a tornado warning for sure was a first for the fest!), and as we welcomed the community for the second ever Startupfest After-Hours party organized in collaboration with ElanTech (ex-Montreal NewTech) , something exciting was also happening in the SOMO lounge.

The Exclusive SOMO experience was a special event organized for SOMO members and other founders. It gave them private access to the SOMO lounge all throughout the evening to enjoy a special night of tequila tasting and networking with Randy Smerik , startupfest speaker and tequila producer.

A unique event and a unique guest

For this special occasion, we opened the lounge to all startup founders. We wanted to share with the Startupfest crowd the ambiance and the incredible network of the SOMO in order to create real meaningful connections and even more inspiring interactions.?

The highlight of the evening was our very special guest Randy Smerik , an experienced serial entrepreneur, with over 30 years’ experience in the high technology fields of database systems, analytics, big data, mobile, social, networking, SaaS, security, and semi-conductors as well as businesses in the spirits and restaurant markets.?

But the talk wasn’t about entrepreneurship or tech : the talk was purely about tequila, a topic Randy is passionate about. Throughout the night, Randy shared his enthusiasm with the founders, leading them on a tasting journey of three distinct tequilas and engaging them in the topic with his captivating presentation covering all aspects of tequila.?

After the talk, conversations flowed and connections were made between the founders around drinks and food. The night ended with everyone joining the main party downstairs, after an inspiring unique experience in the beautiful SOMO lounge.?

A place for sharing passions and life experiences

At the core of the SOMO club & lounge is our vision to make it a second home for founders, a place where they can rest, connect with like-minded peers and recharge.?

But more than that, it’s a place for the members to inspire and get inspired, to share their interests not only related to work and entrepreneurship, but also related to their passions and hobbies. And we’re happy to say that it did inspire our special guest Randy Smerik, who has since become a member of the club.?
