"Sometimes you go faster if you take your foot off the accelerator."

If you have ever found yourself in a position where you are seemingly working around the clock to accomplish a task at work or pushing yourself so hard to attain certain performance levels that you find yourself actually accomplishing less, you are not alone. High performers very often struggle with taking some time to decompress as they are very often solely focused on accomplishing a specific task. Even if you are in the very best physical condition of your life, your mind needs time to “let go” & recharge.?Mental exhaustion among individuals, especially leaders, is a very real thing in business, particularly among top performers. ?

Unfortunately, no matter how intelligent or creative you may be, mental exhaustion will eventually stifle your creativity and problem-solving skills. This can lead to poor decision making, dramatic personality swings, and ultimately poor work performance, as well as, a less than satisfying personal life. Strive to take some time to decompress throughout the day. Your schedule will very often dictate when you can do this but make certain you make the time to do it. Whether it’s getting away from your desk to stretch your legs, visiting the gym for a thirty-minute cardio session during lunch, or taking a simple walk with a loved one in the evening, set some time aside to give your mind a break. You’ll very often find that by doing this on a daily basis you will be more relaxed, productive, and creative on the job. This is true whether you are working remotely or from an office.?
