Sometimes Words Muddy the Waters

The miraculous gift that we humans possess to communicate thoughts, ideas, dreams, wishes and desires, and all kinds of stories with each other through conversation has always been a unique and beautiful channel that we always have at our disposal. In fact, it represents the source of so much beauty, love, partnership, and human connection and can even be used to end all wars (which truth be told, were probably actually started using the very same communication tracks in the first place).
Today, I was watching and listening to one side of an extraordinary reparative telephone conversation between a Taiwanese woman and her mother online, as a function of my participation in "Date With Destiny", Tony Robbins' extraordinary course focussed on redesigning our lives in ways we could not even imagine. Even though I did not understand the actual words, I felt that I had an amazing understanding of the actual exchange and the thoughts, feelings, and love that were effectively delivered in both directions. I understood zero words. I did capture the full essence of their humanity. It was extraordinary, to say the least.
Shortly after that, I was having a conversation with one of the leaders in the Zoom chat area, and there was a misunderstanding about what I was saying. I perceived that he was disagreeing with me and even perhaps chastising what he thought I was saying, when in fact, because the conversation I was having with another participant was disjointed (as zoom chat conversations frequently are), he thought that I was saying something that I wasn't, as he came into the conversation in mid-stream.
Even though we both understood the language and were literate and articulate enough, it still led to the need to get complete with each other, by clearing things up and then reaffirming our mutual respect and even making a teaching point out of our miscue for other attendees in the group. Although all is now well, I really noticed that knowing the words in a language doesn't necessarily make interaction outcomes easier to achieve.
When you find your true voice and your authentic message, that is only half the battle. Conveying it is where the miracle comes in, and even if you are flawless in your delivery and style, unforeseen misunderstandings can surface and muddy the waters.
Authenticity and honesty and even speaking the same language still require vigilance and respect to assure that the messages transmitted are received as resonantly as possible. No small task sometimes. Often we overlook the miracle that that really is, to create a communication that moves the desired intentions of both parties accurately forward.
