Sometimes life is like a dangling participle!
Top of the weekend my friends! Sometimes life is like a dangling participle?
What do I mean by that you ask? Well a dangling participle is a modifier in search of a word to modify. Got it? Well whether you do or not, the story I’m about to share is true! And another one of those modified precociously true moments that can change your life!
Sometimes life is like a dangling participle?
Complicated? Of course! It's a deeply imbedded life jeopardizing comedic twist. A melodrama with a fairy tale ending. Again this is a true story. Are you now ready to stroll through the words that are coming out of my life's story?
It was the spring of 1983, I was on my way home after a high school career day workshop in Dallas.? While almost about 7 miles from the crib. There appeared a monstrous traffic jam, just ahead of me on Highway 360 due to construction.
Before getting caught in that grid lock mess. I managed to make it to the exit? Whew! That was a close call. Construction was underway for the next 4 miles. it was really deadlocked and there was no way to get off past that exit.
The road work even spilled over on the adjacent neighborhood streets next to the highway. Needless to say I was elated to have missed the mammoth construction slowdown.
As fate would have it. Nails littered some of the side streets. Which ended my momentary penchant for beat the traffic jam gloating. I had two flat tires and one spare. However as fate would have it. My car came to a complete stop right in front of a garage. Lucky huh? It gets better.

Later, I would realize this was no accident. This garage was in the middle of a residential neighborhood street. Meantime right on cue, out walks this “Hell’s Angels” type mountain of a man with a boisterous chuckle.
He quips “It looks like you got a problem boy”.? At this moment, time for political correctness was not on my mind. I’ve got two flat tires in front a garage. Bittersweet to say the least.
The slogan “the mind is a terrible thing”. Immediately came to my mind. I’m thinking you’re going to pay dearly for this fix a tire moment. Yet dude was amazingly professional. My Hells Angels hero jacked up my car without having to take the two tires off the rim. He patched and fixed both back tires in a less than 5 minutes.
Mr Hell's Angel laughs in this big baritone voice “it’s fixed!” I’m thinking this is gonna be expensive. So I ask “how much do I owe you sir”?? I’m thinking this is gonna really be expensive. Even worst, as a passing thought, I wondered if he put those nails in the street to trap unsuspecting motorists? “The mind is a terrible thing”!
His answer was “It’s free”! Now I’m embarrassed. My reply “no you can’t! (Mr Taken advantage of is now wanting to pay extra)? I pull out 30 dollars. His reply “Absolutely not”! This construction crew is one of the worst I’ve seen. You’re not the first one affected by their sloppiness.? No it’s on me! Somewhat bewildered and yet very grateful I leave.
On my way home, I remember I had a couple of extra the new Rolling Stones and Willie Nelson albums. I’m going back tomorrow and hook Mr Hells Angel up! However the next day when I went back. Where I had the flat tires. He wasn’t there. Nor was there a garage.
Did I mention this is a true story? I circled the block convinced I'm on the wrong street. When I asked a few neighborhood folks where is the local garage in this area. Their answer shocked me,? “no garage is allowed in this area. It’s a zoned residential neighborhood”.
Sometimes life is like a dangling participle? It’s a modified precociously true moment that can change your life supernaturally!! As Hebrews 13:1&2 put it “Keep on loving each other as brothers. Do not forget to entertain strangers for by so doing some people have entertained Angels without knowing it”. Hell even knows that right. Donut ever forget it!
