Sometimes It's Baby Steps

This statement comes in handy for several aspects of my life. Sourcing it back to the origin, it is easy to see played out in our children. They straight up take smaller steps to start walking.
In new businesses, it is easy to draw a line to the saying as well. When you are just starting, you sometimes need to or have no choice but to take small steps forward.
In hiking and running, quick side note, I am a decent hiker at elevation and a novice, at best, runner, this statement comes as a guide for progression. When you are hiking, and the terrain has reached intense, that statement flashes through my mind "baby steps."
When running last night, it hit me again. When the lungs didn't show up, and the pre-run bacon didn't sit right, I heard it again, "baby steps."
Baby Steps move us forward, and they do so when running or even fast walking isn't possible. Baby Steps give us reprieve and in progression rest. They let us catch our breath without coming to a full stop. Anyone that has summited a mountain or completed a long trail run knows that stopping is the enemy of completion.
The reminder that hit me while I was regretting my pre-run fuel choice was simple. Even a company as fast-growing as Proximity may, from time to time, require baby steps. An in progression rest that allows the company to keep moving down the path but for the breath to be re-gained.
Intuitive leaders feel a calling to assess the pace, however, are conflicted with the implications. I want to challenge that confliction and put a simple reminder into your head.
"Summits are not attained, and distances are not completed if the pace brings you to a stop."
If you can shorten the steps and thus extend your stamina, you might just make it to the finish.

5 年Great insight Josh Freed; having summited a dozen or so 14ers over the years and two 13ers this past weekend, indeed baby steps are key. I’d add each small step must be completely in focus on where you are putting your feet, for one slip can be disastrous on talus and scree. Checking out the scenery should only be done when you pause to rest. Forge on!
