Sometimes I write with my feet...

Sometimes I write with my feet...

My feet are wonderful things.?

Not only do they finish off my legs perfectly, but, under normal operating conditions, they help to get me from A to B. Sometimes all the way to Z.?

Often all the way back.?

And they help bring balance into my life.?

With my legs, they're my body's essential walking, jogging, running, and climbing equipment.?

But I didn't expect them to be my body's essential writing equipment.?

Colour me bloody surprised.

I've been an advertising copywriter for about 35 years. I've been a fiction writer for longer. I know some folk who say the two aren't all that far apart.?

Most of the time I write sitting down on a chair. At a desk. Using all the usual suspects. Pen, pencil, paper, laptop, iPad.?

I also have a manual, portable typewriter. It's an Underwood with a bit of an oversteer. Sometimes it likes to get in on the act if I'm feeling particularly retro.?

I have a walking cane. It's my constant companion. Long story. It likes to get in on the act, too.

Most of the time it sits unused. Next to my chair. Waiting patiently. But increasingly I find myself indulging in short literary perambulations, while my mind is chewing on concepts. Or headlines. Or strategy.?

So my cane keeps me company. It always rides shotgun.

Sometimes I amble around creative departments (cane-free). Or city centre green bits. Other times I indulge in a quick power stroll, mornings and afternoons, on my indoor treadmill.?

Always putting one foot in front of another.?

Always putting one thought in front of another.?

One word in front of another.?

One sentence in front of another.?

Often, I arrive back at my desk having written whole ads. Having constructed the core of campaigns. Or an idea for another book. All without touching a pen or a keyboard.?

I keep imagining that my calf and thigh muscles are gradually firming up.?

I swear the ache I used to feel in my lower back from too much sitting down and slouching is gradually fading into the background.?

I know, deep down inside, that the continued good quality of my writing probably depends on the continued good quality of my arches, soles, heels, insteps, joints, metatarsals, ligaments, tendons, balls, bridges and little piggies.?

And the way they all fit perfectly into my sensible shoes...

***************************************************

Above is an extract from my book Ad Hoc.?

Like my others in the series, Ad Lib, Ad Infinitum, and the (as yet unpublished) Ad Interruptus, they're about advertising, life, and lots of stuff in between.?

You'll find them (well...except my unpublished crime novel) on Amazon....any time, day or night.?

You'll also find my other books, Love & Coffee, and Heaven Help Us there, too...all in ebook and print.?

So let your fingers do the walking, as they used to say, and pop along to take a sneaky peek.?

Ad Lib: https://amzn.to/2kd4LKf.

Ad Infinitum: https://amzn.to/3pof7Uq

Love & Coffee: https://amzn.to/28IWaHq

Heaven Help Us: https://amzn.to/2nkQ1Jk

So grab a coffee, grab a chair, and grab a sneaky peek.

Then grab a copy...

That writing was an ode to a writer. Well written there Bryce.
