Sometimes, Even The Best Scientists Have an Agenda (010)

It’s your responsibility to find the truth.

We live in a world where you and only you must be actively responsible for understanding the truth. I subscribe to the MIT Technology Review (which costs a hundred dollars annually) because MIT should be/is a trusted resource for science-based truth.

?

MIT Week in Review

Today, I received the Week in Review email, which led with: “This week’s round up: DHS plans to collect biometric data from migrant children “down to the infant”. “

?

I know this is inaccurate because MIT Technology Review has already previously corrected this error, but there it is again, right in my inbox as part of their click-bait campaign. ?So, I click through and find this:

New MIT Story Lead

?

Interesting, that is a different headline.? So, I read the article (around 3,000 words), and you guessed it, they “corrected” the error in a few spots, and at the very end of the article, I found this:

?

MIT Correction Notice

?

What’s my point?? Simply put, I am paying real money to a source that purports to be science-based, meaning-seeking truth through facts, and they are deliberately engaging in click-bait strategies with a paid subscriber!

?

It is critical to your health as a leader to seek facts and truth, regardless of your opinion of a topic. In this case, using technology for national security. Even when you have a highly trusted resource, read, ask questions, and look for the writer’s motivation.

?

Given the state of our world, politics, the internet, and social media, it is more important than ever that you take responsibility for understanding truth, not truth as it fits your agenda, but absolute truth based on facts, your life experience, and clear-headed evaluation.?

Have a great day!

I would argue that rather than "sometimes"....it would be safer(and likely much more accurate) to assume that every scientist has an agenda to report results that fit the desired narrative, until you can confirm otherwise. And sadly, same with journalists....and it goes both ways.

Exactly so. And the general public doesn't do their homework and will accept as gospel almost anything that includes "experts say" or "scientists say" in the headline. There's a website called "Retraction Watch", run by two academics, that collects many of the study retractions from the major scientific journals around the world on practically every topic. It's quite sobering reading when you see the names of the top scientific journals appearing again and again.
