Sometimes business sucks...
I remember the first time I fired someone I cried for the next hour.
In retrospect, the person was a horrible person. I should have called the cops on him. But it still was hard.
The other week I had to let a couple people go. People I've known for a long time. People I care about.
Even though it just wasn't the right fit anymore, it still destroys me. I can't function, eat, or think after I do it.
So why am I sharing this with you?
It's because I know that we business owners try hard to make everything work. But sometimes it doesn't work like we wanted. It's like trying to put a round peg in a square hole.
Sure, we can continue to pretend that everything is working. But I think this ends up not only hurting the business, but, more often than not, it hurts the employee as well.
As I look back on my 14 years of having employees, I see some of the journeys my former employees are on. Though it was really painful when I let them go, I realized that these new doors in their life wouldn't have opened if I had kept them.
There will always be people that come and go in your life who help you on your mission at different stages.
Hopefully, if you look at that way, it will make the parting of ways less painful.
Some parts of business will always be hard. For other parts of business, like marketing, you can use formulas that make things easier and fun.
