What do you think ?? .... below are my thoughts .. !!
This is not something we don't already know, but sometimes things like this HIT you had and gets you to think.... what am i doing ? where am i headed :) & things like that.
This happened recently when i and my friend were invited to meet someone for a discussion and it was not very clear what the contours of the meeting is going to be, but i'm a big believer of meeting new people, exploring synergy and connect which is how you grow on all things - influence, connection and most importantly being able to bridge people to help with good connects and some getting some business done etc.. So given my philosophy of investing time on network building, my first hunch is always to go for it and take the chance of it may be a dud meeting and something where the value of connect is heavily asymmetric, meaning - the other person has to more to gain by knowing you than the other way around. The asymmetrical ratio to some extend is OK, but cannot be lop-sided, which means you are just wasting your time... big time.
So coming back to the example. I was waiting for my friend for the catch-up meet with this unknown new person & while waiting for a while, it kind of dawned on me, given sometimes i become little busy and its always a fight on which item to pick & run with. So, i was here waiting & wasting time, but more worried about my next 3 - 4 hrs of time which was on the line. I'm sure some of you guys have been in this position before and thought about this and realized that you could be something much more worthwhile with that kind of time, whose value is on the rise as you grow older all the time and not have the luxury of time to waste.
The waiting was when it HIT ! me hard on the importance & value of TIME!! (not that we don't know this basis, but it dawned on me on how important it is to allocate your TIME ! (most precious commodity & depleting fast...... ) and use it with utmost care & wise. The TIME! you spent is gone & never coming back again..
Coming back to my story, my friend had now arrived and we went ahead for this meeting which did take some 3 hrs (travel included..) & i guess time will tell if it was a good decision to have gone for that ... :)
Never-the-less, i thought at the very moment that this is something i want to pend down as a post & will be able to strike a chord with all my friends on this network and get to hear your views or a similar story.. if there is...

8 年It's always good to have a wait-list handy to catch-up on tasks while you are on a wait .. we can never anticipate when we would be in such a situation and getting those tasks identified and keeping them handy helps to close and follow up .. time is definitely valuable !!

8 年The ever elusive Time paradox is something that most of us have not been able to solve, but sometimes it is worth the wait (which we consider to be a waste), else such epiphanies will never strike a chord in our day to day maddening schedule.

8 年Couldn't agree more. I've always been petrified by the number of birthdays I have left, and what little time's left to make an impact of any form- including time for oneself
