Something Old...Something "Refreshed"? - #AEC in #STL doesn't ALWAYS have to be new!

Welcome back friends, family, subscribers (old and new)! It's NO joke my latest issue is being published on April Fools Day! Whipping through daily life (professional and personal) atop finishing Easter celebrations takes up ones time! Regardless, I find this newsletter pertinent to both recapping my life escapades and encouraging my fellow architecture and design professionals to embark on their own! I've enjoyed these past two weeks and hope you have too. If not, let this issue act as inspiration to find an #escapade of your own!

  1. One of the greatest benefits working in the City of St. Louis #AEC space is the #history! The community itself is enriched with long-lasting relationships - people who have occupied the space for decades (won't say how long or who). When I started at The Resource Center @ AIA St. Louis , some of those reached out immediately to me and I've grown to consider them true friends.
  2. Another benefit is the #historicalarchitecture. Lining the streets from Downtown St. Louis leading into the county (especially the palatial mansions directly across from Forest Park), there's a story behind why it was built in the first place!

My work commute brought me to AIA St. Louis ' Washington Avenue for years and now I'm fortunate to work a few minutes away on Locust Street at Built Solutions (shared Headquarters with Coltrane Systems LLC )! The header shot is my silhouette on a Saturday night out discovering the nearby restaurants and entertainment venues literally minutes walk from my workplace.

When we talk about reviving cities, making their heart - the urban center - thrive will inspire people to patronize stores, bring tour groups, and even live where they work!

St. Louis does a LOT of things RIGHT to drown out the negativity plaguing cities nationwide! This cityscape, from its structures down to its numerous non-profits, are urging you to participate. Refer to my article from January right below about pledging time to a worthwhile [design based] non-profit. The amount you get back is far more valuable than monetary - you experience TRUE LOVE for your city!

If you're asking, How did Locust Street get its origin story? Browse this PDF about the Locust Street Automotive District from the Missouri State Parks organization!

Garrett Easton (Rockfon North America) - @ Greater St. Louis CSI Product Show, March 27 2024

One of the many highlights over the past couple weeks was the Greater Saint Louis Chapter CSI Product Show! LOTS of firsts this year - new location at Greensfelder Recreation Complex (Queeny Park), new social media promotion, new energy! Great example of revitalizing a St. Louis tradition of many years to infuse a new attitude! I've known of this show as the premiere #productshow in the St. Louis region ever since my days at AIA St. Louis ! As both an active #StLouisCSI Board Member and first time exhibitor, I have nothing but praise for how this year's turned out! Make sure to "Save the Date" for the next annual event, our St. Louis 2024 Golf Classic on Wednesday, September 18, 2024!

In the meantime, there are immediate events (soon as this week) you should mark in your calendars. Below is only a fraction, for your consideration:

SLC3 Wine Event - @ SLC3 Headquarters

I'll end this edition with another photo op! If you haven't attended an event by the St. Louis Council of Construction Consumers (SLC3) - just what are you missing?! Their Emerging Professionals "Wine Night" on Wednesday, March 27 was for everyone. Much like discovering a new merlot, rose, or riesling with sparkling gold flakes, networking with exceptional people who benefit the AEC community made my first event with them a royal treat! Many kudos as well to the magnificent Brandy Scheer smiling for the camera!

Third edition now - third times the charm?! I understand practice makes perfect - all the while being so much fun! Did this edition make a similar impact the other two did? I especially welcome your suggestions on events or organizations I should include. It's hard to find a limit when you have the sky as your limit!

Thank you all for your outpouring of support and interest! Be sure to share this newsletter and encourage others to subscribe after doing so yourself! Especially for anyone brand new to St. Louis (city or its A&D industry), let this be one of their guides! I'm going to continue on this bi-weekly trend...I'm already getting started for mid-April!

Remember, keep your pulse on life as I will do mine! That's #nojoke - (seriously, I'm kind of over April Fool's Day :D). Have a blessed one!
