Something about the LED Ceilings in Virtual Production

It's the trend to apply LED screens in virtual production studios. As a professional LED solution provider, we do find that people pay primary attention to the LED back walls, however, the LED ceiling is also an important part and even more challenging when building your XR studios. Here are some of the different thoughts from our industry friends:
"It's another light source but one that is also not needed for every type of project. Many times using practicals is more than enough than needing a run of panels. It's project to project basis and a discussion one should have with the DP, Gaffer, and VFX/VP Supervisor on the project as early as possible. You really are not shooting into the ceilings much if at all and it's why we mainly use a higher PP like 4/5 etc so the resolution of panels above isn't really a huge issue. I am more worried about the spectral and photometric output of the panels than a sharp ceiling." - Jim Geduldick
"I find ceiling panels blow out the background wall contrast. We only use it if foreground reflections are the priority. If background quality is the priority then we don't (or heavily tilt ceiling away from the wall if possible) " - Jim Jimbo
"For immersive environment and lighting, even when reflected on non-shiny object, a difused image and color still be necessary." - Duc. Truong Huyen
"It's all about matching light, shadow, and reflective light on the subject." - Rich Conner
"I think the LED ceiling should be as flexible as possible because how fast you can change the stage setup will make a quite difference in shooting effect and the cost." - Michael Huang

AOTO's MXH series LED ceiling is one of the best in this industry considering the flatness, large viewing angle, color space and uniformity, brightness, and super-light structure.?

Top Gun and Michael Bay films come to mind. “Our scientists have done things which nobody's ever done before... Dr. Ian Malcolm : Yeah, yeah, but your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could that they didn't stop to think if they should.” - Jurassic Park
